He belives the Doctor knows best and wants to give my 9 y/o the chicken pox booster. was diagnosed at 6 y/o with high functioning autism. This was After he received the original chicken pox vaccine. I'm not positive That vaccines had a hand in his autism, but my husband is positive That they did not. I need the opinions of others to help me with this Conundrum. Thanks, ********************* There are people on here with strong feelings on both sides. The scientific evidence is that vaccinations are useful and few will have side effects. The anecdotal evidence is that some kids will have a reaction, and that may include the development of autism. I personally am sceptical of the claim that vaccines *cause* autism, as there are many autistic people who were autistic before they had any vaccines, or who were never vaccinated. I would not, however, dismiss the claim that there may be a connection between vaccines and autism in *some* cases. Our kids have had all their vaccines, and neither showed any change in behaviour afterwards. My son showed ASD characteristics before he was born, and they did not get worse after vaccination. You have to way up the risk and decide on what you believe is best. Some people will condemn you whichever way you go, so you may as well do what you believe to be right. Guest guest
Hi , let me first state as a disclaimer that i am anti-vax- and that all my kids are fully vaxed but will get no more (2 out of 3 of my kids are ASD - no certainty that getting vaxed was the cause but I'm not taking any chances). That said, I feel for you and found this link that seems to be 'bi- partisan'. http://www.909shot.com/Diseases/chickenpox%20facts.htm The note that most struck me was that people that contract chickenpox naturally are typically confered lifelong immunity. The vaccine does not offer this according to this site. I'm afraid you'll have to do more research on your own. the only things that I have to add of value: 1) my 2 year old twins were vaccinated and both came down with it under a week later and gave it to their older brother. Their only exposure was via the vaccines - and let me tell you that they did not get the 'mild form' that we are told sometimes results from the vax. They were full on covered and I lost 2 weeks of work anyway. 2) chicken pox is a short term viral infection (symptomatically speaking), I agree with the folks that say it's a childhood rite of passage. I'd much rather have them have the pox then be injected with cow DNA and MSG and the other ingredients involved. Best of luck to you, I know you're in a very tough spot. How big of a fight will this cause? > > My husband and I are at different sides of this issue. Guest guest
Dear , You might join the autism treatment group and read the recent posts in response to a question as to how to avoid autism. You could also remind [gently :*)] your husband that chicken pox is not a life-threatening problem by any means. He also might be interested to know the ingredients in vaccines, which you can easily find on the computer or I can post some of them, like human foetal tissue (from aborted babies) anti-freeze, tissue from chickens and monkeys ... and worse! Guest guest
Can i say Francine, that while chicken pox may not be life threatening, it can have serious compications. I know of 2 children who came in contact with the chicken pox virus - it didn't affect them in the usual way ie spots, but instead worked its way into the fluid round the spine. This did lead to problems like not being able to walk for a while. It IS unusual for this to happen. but it does happen. Luckily both these kids recovered, but it could have been worse. Guest guest
Both my boys got the vaccine. I had CP when I was 12, I would not wish that on anyone. Its already proven the older they are when they get it the worse it can be, even deadly. In the long run its up to you. But I make sure my kids get all their vaccines. Guest guest
Hi Ally I have three boys, one of whom has High Functioning Aspergers, and they have received all the vaccinations that have been offered to me - measels, mumps, rubella, polio, vitamin K etc - and they are all fine. The doctor who diagnosed my 12 year old son with ASD does not believe that his condition was caused by these vaccinations and also doesn't believe that it was caused by my pregnancy or the birth - he says that the condition can affect anyone and there is no way of knowing which children and adults are affected. If you feel uneasy about allowing your child to have certain vaccinations then perhaps it is best that you don't vaccinate them until you feel confident that the decision you are making is right for you and your child. Guest guest
The following link is an article I read today regarding vaccines (found on Generation Rescue's website). I remembered your post while I was reading it and wanted to share the info. It gives some anti-vac info, but also includes info on vaccines that should not be skipped (along with medical opinions for the reasons). http://www.generationrescue.org/pdf/user_friendly.pdf > > My husband and I are at different sides of this issue. Guest guest
Does anyone know if it is okay to get the chicken pox vaccine while on MTX? Grant is due for his second round of it and I've heard something about not getting a vaccine if it is a live virus. That might also be if you are on Enbrel or another TNF blocker. Thanks! & Grant (11, PsA/Uveitis)
Guest guest
My memory is a bit foggy on it except I do know that we were told to get the vaccine prior to starting the MTX. Guest guest
A child taking any medication for JRA that inhibits the immune system should not receive any live vaccines. I would absolutely not give Grant the chicken pox vaccine. Also, a live vaccine could trigger the immune system, which in turn could trigger a flare. You should discuss this issue with the rheumy and ped. Val Rob's Mom (11, systemic) chicken pox vaccine Does anyone know if it is okay to get the chicken pox vaccine while on MTX? Guest guest
Yes - I kept out of school in elementary school when they gave the flu mist vaccine in the school - because our kids shouldn't be around any one right after receiving a live virus vaccine. Val Rob's mom (11,systemic) Re: chicken pox vaccine We just went through this in November at my daughters well-child. She just turned 8 and was due for her 2nd dose of the chicken pox vaccine. We DID NOT give it to her per the rheumatologist's instructions. The rheumy strongly urged us to do the flu " shot " but said no way to the flu mist because it is a live virus. I hope that helps! Guest guest
You should NOT get the chickenpox vacine while on these drugs. When my son went on MTX the protocol was only one chickenpox vacine was needed. so he only had the one before we started MTX and then remicade. He was exposed to Chickenpox and was given an experimental drug that had to be flown in to try and lessen the effects of the CP if he did develop them. 11 days later he did develop CP and spent a week in the hospital on anti-viral IV meds. But he only got a mild case so we think the experimental drugs helped. It is very important to get 2 chicken pox shots in BEFORE starting any of the immune supperssing drugs Hugs Helen and (11, systemic and EDS) @...: TerriBer@...: Fri, 6 Feb 2009 12:38:25 -0500Subject: Re: chicken pox vaccine Aubrey was on Mtx for years off last January and in June we gave her the Chicken pox shot.
