Thanks Irma,

I've just jumped on the computer, my mum is here and keeping an eye on

Leigh...school hols for the next 4 weeks, he is obsessed with food, food and

more food, always dragging me to the pantry, even straight after he's

finished his meals and when I say " NO " he falls to the floor and cries. He

is sometimes distracted with music, but that doesn't last for too long. I'd

like to wish everyone a HAPPY NEW YEAR for 2002, may we have health and

strength for our children.

Glad you're mom is helping you and her grandkids . This will keep her

mind occupied . Its always good to be with close family . Oh my

goodness , hope you find some answers to this . Joan wrote a

remarkable schedule . Will this help ?..... Falls to the floor and

cries , sounds like me back when I was very young as my mom tells

me . Have to pull those " give me " tricks . Pretty smart using it ,

though , if it works . Have you tried locking up the pantry and

fridge ? Maybe posting a clock picture when its time to eat only . Of

course throw in his favorite snacks in between . Using a timer or

alarm to let his brain understand its the only time to eat. I do not

have this problem with , I guess because of the snacks in

between all the time . Plenty of fluids . But he can eat alot , if I

don't watch him . No overweight problem , he is growing the other

direction , tall . Is Leigh under any type of medication ? Take care .

No, he's not taking any medication, we've tried Dexamphetamine and

Haloperidol. The first made him very aggressive towards himself, hair

pullling etcc and the second made him very sleepy, to the extent that he

could not function during the day so I have decided to keep him off meds for

awhile. You are right the tantrums do work and he does get what he wants, I

never thought of it that way (clever boy). I always thought wouldn't it be

great if he took my hand and pulled me to the toilet when he needs to go

just the way he does to the pantry. Have a great day:)

Just reading what you've mentioned makes me want to pull my hair . I

hear ya on the trials of the meds . Its never an easy road and it can

be heart breaking seeing that the meds are doing more harm than

good . Of course , when I saw not doing well , I just threw

them in the waste basket . He went through several meds and I will no

longer have him take them of course if had other areas that

needed to be attended to right away , I would have to take the med

route . Right now he is doing fine , meaning behavior wise ,

interacting with family and at school . I'm more into the reading up

about the Immune Dysfunction and many research is going on to find

the actual culprit . This coming February I'll be attending another

Medical Conference for Autism . I can't wait to hear the updated

information .

Yes, very clever . Can you blame our kids being irresistible ? I

hope you do find a way at home for Leigh . Luck with the structure

routine when you go for it .

How I too , wish the same . When Leigh pulls you , have you noticed

more strength in him ? I know does . Take care .

Sophie,

You said that Relafen has the side effect of headaches. Does your daughter get

headaches from it?? Jaye has already been through life with migrains and

I would sure hate to go back down that road again. With her seizure disorder we

are never sure if her headaches are the migrain or the seizure until after a

bit. I think a big part of our determination is on how long they last. The

severe headaches she gets that do not last all day but only a few minutes or up

to a couple of hours we often attribute to seizure. The long lasting all day or

several days we attribute to migrains but even those could be seizure related.?

Most generally Jayes seizure activity has caused more headaches literally

and figurativly then other symptoms.? Just another thing to watch for and have

more questions.? We see the rheumy on August 31 to see how she is doing.? they

were good to say that if she has more problems or does not get better with her

foot problem she has now, they will get her in sooner.?
