Guest guest
I don't really have to get admitted too often. But if your child does I think it's a good idea. Especially if he has medical emergencies that send him to the hospital. Hugs Shea Sent from my iPad On Dec 1, 2010, at 8:48 AM, " Y " <wsyoung@...> wrote: I may have asked this before... What do you think about doing a medical alert bracelet/necklace for your JIA child? Mainly due to the medications they are on I guess. Does anyone here have them for their child? If so, do you have problems getting them to wear them? I really am thinking about getting one for my son, especially to wear when he is at school and/or away from home. Guest guest
wears one. It's from 's Hope - here's the webpage for the one I got: http://www.laurenshope.com/products/117/waterproof-adjustable-medical-id-bands I do the waterproof, velcro band with the insertible information card - because 's meds change so much. I don't use the cards that come with the bracelet though - even though it says they are waterproof when written on with their pen (basically a sharpie). I was using those at first and the information was getting smeared from washing her hands and getting the bracelet wet with art class, etc. I have a word document that I use to update info as needed, then print it out and laminate down to a size that fits inside the bracelet (I do info on two sides and laminate it back to back). I have to use Calibri size 8 to get it all to fit. The info I list is as follows: Rose Winn D.O.B. 3/31/01 Systemic JRA/JIA –Daily Meds: Prednisone 2mg; Kineret .11ml injected; Mobic 3.75mg; Folic Acid 1mg Weekly Methotrexate 1ml injected, Penicillin & Cipro Allergy Parents: (970) 227-3900; (970) 214-9881 Pediatrician: (970) 482-2515 Ballard Rheumatologist: (720) 777-6132 Soep I've been thinking of getting a prettier bracelet for , with a more generalized amount of info engraved. So far she doesn't have any problem wearing the velcro one. In fact she says she doesn't want one that looks like a bracelet because then more kids would ask her about the info on it. I feel like I'm listing probably more info than needed, and I should probably " let go " a bit. I've definitely turned into a hover mother in the course of this disease, but the ironic truth is I have way less control of the situation than I could ever pretend to have ... I just want the info there in case of an emergency, namely a car accident I guess. I'll be curious to see what other responses you get. I do notice that when we go to Arthritis Foundation events and see other JIA families that is one of the only ones wearing a medical bracelet. Do I need to let go a bit?! What's the balance of preparation versus control freak?? nn (, 9, systemic) > > I may have asked this before... > > What do you think about doing a medical alert bracelet/necklace for your JIA child? Guest guest
My daughter is 18 (19 next month) and a college freshman. She has worn a Medic Alert bracelet for many years because of her health conditions, the medications used and her drug allergies. She was on board with getting it and wearing it.
