I am also curious. I have been thinking of getting one for my daughter because

she will be going to college soon. She will not tell anyone, so if there were an

emergency in which she could not speak for herself no one would know anything

about her condition. Maybe I hover too much too, but it feels to me like the

responsible thing to do.

I do the waterproof, velcro band with the insertible information card - because

's meds change so much. I don't use the cards that come with the bracelet

though - even though it says they are waterproof when written on with their pen

(basically a sharpie). I was using those at first and the information was

getting smeared from washing her hands and getting the bracelet wet with

art class, etc.

I have a word document that I use to update info as needed, then print it out

and laminate down to a size that fits inside the bracelet (I do info on two

sides and laminate it back to back). I have to use Calibri size 8 to get it all

to fit. The info I list is as follows:

I've been thinking of getting a prettier bracelet for , with a more

generalized amount of info engraved. So far she doesn't have any problem

wearing the velcro one. In fact she says she doesn't want one that looks like a

bracelet because then more kids would ask her about the info on it. I feel like

I'm listing probably more info than needed, and I should probably " let go " a

bit. I've definitely turned into a hover mother in the course of this disease,

but the ironic truth is I have way less control of the situation than I could

ever pretend to have ... I just want the info there in case of an emergency,

namely a car accident I guess. I'll be curious to see what other responses you

get. I do notice that when we go to Arthritis Foundation events and see other

JIA families that is one of the only ones wearing a medical bracelet. Do

I need to let go a bit?! What's the balance of preparation versus control

freak??

You might also consider registering her thru the disability dept at her college.

Her physician would need to write a letter detailing needed accommodations. One

such accommodation is being able to register early. She then could get the

classes she wanted at a later time in the morning to help with fatigue.

n has been registered thru disability the last four years at her school.
