Laurie, I know exactly what you mean. I can go to Wal-Mart and walk around

for an hour, but if I have to stand in line to check out it just kills me. I

shift from one leg to another too. One time last winter it was so bad that I

just started crying right there, I was so embarrassed but I couldn't control

it. I'm afraid of stairs, but sometimes I can handle them if I'm not too

tired. But I think if I had to work all day and then come home and walk up a

flight of stairs, well I just don't think I could do it. C

I just lean on the cart and look at the candy to keep my mind off my legs.

Hi Laurie,

Boy can I relate to that. I went to a cook out yesterday and being out

doors meant standing and walking on the lawn. Well, one women came up to

greet me by giving me a hug and a kiss. I must have danced around for a

couple minutes trying to stand still on the bumpy lawn. I sure she thought I

was stoned. In fact later that day a young women was taking about how she

falls quite often and I explained too her about my CMT. She commented on the

fact that she had seen the previously described greeting and her thought was,

that guy is loaded. Yes, I have been there and done that.

Hi Fred,

I found it very funny. I don't think I have ever been humiliated, but I

have been humbled by someone's actions or even words. I find there is a

difference. I love to poke fun at myself, but not to the point of being a

buffoon. I am what I am my friend, and they can either love it or leave it,

of course I would rather they love it, LOL

Hi , and everyone else,

When you said " she thought I was stoned " I'm not sure whether you

found this funny or humiliating. I've read other posts where people

have definitely expressed humiliation. I feel strongly that there's

nothing for us to be humiliated about - CMT isn't our fault, we were

born with it! In these kinds of situations or while shopping etc can

you just say " my feet are sore today " or " my legs are giving me

trouble " if you don't want to explain about the CMT?

Fred.

Hi Fred. I think some of us feel we did something bad or wrong to deserve

this. We may not even know why or if we feel that way(subconscious). Maybe

sometimes its a religious thing? When I was growing up I was taught bad

things happen to bad people or bad things happen to people who need to learn

something. That as innocent as it sounds left me as a child and an adult

thinking that I was needing to learn something that others didn't need to

learn because I was missing something. I needed what ever it was in my life

that other people had. In simpler words. My friends and family all had what

ever it was and I was born needing to be taught a lesson.

It has not come easy for me to drop the guilt and over come what I felt. But

I am happy to say I am a new thinkier.

Hi Laurie, and E,

Owen here, I also have been there and done that. But it is so much fun to see

the

look on their faces trying to decide if your going to fall or not. I usually

tell

the person that assaults me with a hug they had better be ready to catch me when

they let go. Although I haven't had that happen since I started using crutches

all the time. I guess I was having to much fun.

Happy Trails
