I can't imagine when my daughter will start doing her own injections; and will

thus have the " power " to decide not to do one ... I obviously don't have any

advice since my daughter is still young. But, I'm curious - our Rheumy says no

live vaccines while on methotrexate (and she's also on kineret)? 's only

had the one chx pox vaccine - she didn't have to get the second one because she

broke out in chx pox from the 1st shot .. rare reaction, but she has showed

positive blood titers several times so seems immune. But, even if she wasn't

immune we've been told no live vaccines right now -- maybe doctors differ on

that? Anyway, I'm just wondering if it might work out better that she didn't

take the methotrexate since she'll be getting the live vaccine tomorrow. I know

people skip the mtx for kids who have the flu, etc, so hopefully just getting

back on schedule this Friday will be okay. Good luck!

she says she did her injection. I can perfectly understand not wanted to be so

sick over the holiday but would have felt much more comfortable asking the

Rheummy first about a possible delay. Now it is Tuesday and her regular day is

Friday it almost seems pointless to do it now. She has to have another

chicken-pox shot tomorrow so she can get back on her Humeria and I am just so

stressed.

It is so normal at this age, . Don't worry about it, but do tell Amber

that it is her responsibility to discuss this with her rheumatologist. It's

all part of growing up and learning to take charge of her own health.

Hi All,

My daughter just confessed to me that she skipped her Methotrexate injection

this week as she gets so nauseous from them now she didn't want to be sick

over Christmas. I am a little un-nerved as I could always trust her with

this when she says she did her injection. I can perfectly understand not

wanted to be so sick over the holiday but would have felt much more

comfortable asking the Rheummy first about a possible delay. Now it is

Has anyone encountered their child skipping an injection?

Thank you.

I have not had the problem with Jaye's injections cause she likes me to

give them to her. I have had the problem with her taking her meds if I leave it

up to her though. She will never refuse to take them, or give me the least bit

of argument, but she will just " forget " to do it if I don't take it to her. I

never know if she really forgets or just does not want to get up and do it. So I

make sure every night that I take them to her with a drink and give it to her.

I think I worry more about it because of her seizure med's. The thought of her

missing them and having a seizure scares me very much. It is too bad that it

makes her sick the day after. Jaye will sleep longer the day after and

not feel as good as normal but then normal has not been too good anyway. We have

been blessed that she does not get nauscious from the mtx. And now adding the

Enbrel has helped I do think. Jaye was just telling me yesterday

actually bragging that she is not needing to take a nap every day. I would hope

that you can discuss this and Amber will realize the importance. And since it is

in her system missing the one dose may not cause much of a problem. Don't

stress too much.

Hi

You can also choose to see it from the positive side - that your daughter is

feeling her body and how it reacts to certain medecines etc and decides to not

have MTX . That must also mean she does farely good without it and that taking

it makes her feel worse than not taking it. MTX is a toxic that made my daughter

worse and worse for each week she took it and eventualy had to get off it

because she would be sick for 3-4 days after taking it. For years she was

without MTX and Enbrel but for the last 3 years she has taken Enbrel only. It

helped for a while but now she feels a doze of glucosamine, MSM and chondroitin

helps just as much or even one Ibuprofen per day.

I think it's a good thing when our kids start to feel what is going on and since

MTX is not a " dangerous " drug to miss out on ( as Prednisolone is) she will

probably ask for it when she needs it in the next days.

Hi ,

I know I am late in responding to this, but I have been off email for a week or

so!  I jut wanted to let you know that I have a 17 year old daughter who has

been giving herself her injections since she was 14.  She has a great

relationship with her doctor and has emailed him and called him to ask lots of

questions that she thinks of and does not want to forget before her next

appointment.  He has told her to go ahead and change the day if there is

something special like prom going on or a big test you do not want to be sick

for.  She also just wrote him a few weeks again when she had her wisdom teeth

pulled and just said " I feel like crap with the teeth being pulled would it be

alright to skip this week so I don't feel crappier? "   He wrote back " of

course "

What did you end up doing?  Do you think she will continue to do it or was it

just for Christmas, which you really can not blame.  Who wants to feel like

crap

on Christmas?  Teens.....got to just love them!

Happy New Year

Maureen
