Guest guest
Sandy, Welcome to our group and I hope that you soon find out that your daughter does not have JIA and that she is doing beetter real soon. This is a wonderful group and you will be able to get much information from them. My daughter was 11 when diagnosed with JIA. She was first diagnosed Pauciarticular and then it was changed to Polyarticular. She started with a swollen ankle and within a few months it had spread to her wrists, hands, elbows, knees and feet. She also had some jaw involvement in the beginning but that has not been a problem for quite some time now. Since then she has had joint pain in every joint we know of in her body at one time or another. For her it seems one area will be inflamed for a while then it settles down. This Fall has not been good for her and she has had problems with her knees, feet, ankles, wrists, elbows, neck, back, sholders and maybe more. This seems to be her worst Fall so far. She always has struggles moving into the fall and winter but seems to do ok during the winter and Spring. I do not understand it, but we deal with it. Her initial big flare was in Ocotober 2005. We have kept her on the lower end meds so far but know that the biologics are out there if we need them. Currently she is on methotrexate, hydroxichloroquine, and meloxicam for arthritis. She is on prevacid and folic acid for tummy trubles caused by these meds, and then she takes medication for seizure control. We recently increased her methotrexate and she seems to be doing better. There is always a chance that our kids will go into remission and that is our goal. I would prefer a medication free remission but at this point am ready for a medidcated remission so she can just enjoy being a young lady. Be sure to ask any questions about arthritis or any of the medications. Someone on this list will have knowledge about just about anything related. This is really a fantastic group. I am so glad I found it too and I have made great friends.
