depends on the doc and where in the country. We did it at 3 and 6. First to see

what his initial response was and then again at 6 to see if they keep the

response.

Thanks I am starting see that it really depends on the doctor....

Right now I am about to pull my hair out!!!!! I put Jake to bed and

he was fine....When he woke up yesterday morning he was very

conjested and drainage was coming out of his eyes to the point they

were sealed shut. Of course off to the doctor we went, and guess

what another sinus infection. This is the third one in the past 3

months. The last one was on November 2 and he was treated with 20

days of Augmentin..so he got off last week and now we are sick again

and trying biaxin for 21 days said if he is not much better in a

couple of days we will change to Cipro. On the bright side the

antibiotic should hold him til the week before christmas but on the

down side he will probably get sick for christmas. I am so

frustrated because I got spoiled when he was on IVIG this is

bringing back the nightmares prior to IVIG I think we had 5 hospital

admissions in one winter not to mention a PICC line and 2 sinus

lavages. I just hate to see him suffer...so far I have not

contacted his immunologist about the infections because we are

trying to get post levels and we are so close to being able to draw

the blood. I just am not sure how much more I or he can take before

I contact him.

Misty: Mom to Jake, one sick little boy right now :(

Misty, I really think you should let the immunologist make the call as

to whether to wait on starting back on IVIG. I don't know why the

numbers are so very important to you when your child has already proven

that he needs IVIG. That doesn't make a lot of sense to me, but I'm

sure I don't know the whole story. Your immunologist should be on board

to make sure that you don't set up damage from these continual

infections that will require more sinus surgery, etc. or permanent

damage. Weighing that decision against when to start IVIG -- sounds

like a doctor's decision -- not a parents!!! Just want to remind you

that YOU don't have to carry this weight around -- you can get your

immunologist's input and let him help make the decision.

I was that kind of Mother -- if the doctor said we had to wait 3 months

-- then we're going to wait 3 months if it kills us because I'm going to

be compliant. As I've grown older, I've realized that there are more

important factors -- like being able to relax as a mom and let the

doctors do the decisions and bad stuff. Take some of the weight off

yourself and let them help you decide what is best. Just my suggestion.

My pastor said, " There's no such thing as the lone ranger. Even the

Lone Ranger wasn't alone -- God sent him Tonto! " God sends us good

nurses, good doctors, good groups like this one to help us navigate this

journey.

You know what you just hit the nail on the head. Sometimes I feel

like from the medical community that they are like " I know more than

you do so just listen. " But yesterday it hit me when Jake came home

from school miserable..and I called the Dr. (his reg Dr. was not in)

and she told me He just started the antibiotic you need to give it

time to work! Well I kinda just said OK then when I thought about it

it was like He's been on an antibiotic since October 15th! I think it

should have worked by now! My husband made the decision this morning

that he is calling the immunologist. Thanks for your input!'

Hi Misty:

I'm hoping by now is home and doing much, much better.  I said prayers

for him while I was away.  Please post when you can and let us know how he is

doing.
