Guest guest
Tristan will have a new teacher this year who is coming from the Katy ISD. If any of you know Janis Donigan as a teacher please email me offline. She is coming with good credentials and we hope she is everything they say she is. It would be interesting to find out how most school districts are with Texas Autism Conference. How many they send, and how they fund it. Our school district is only sending two employees, the new teacher and the new speech therapist. They never send any of the TA's that work with children with autism. They cite lack of funds in the budget even though my daughter spoke to the school board about this very thing, and yet nothing has changed. I haven't gone in the past but my daughter and I are taking Tristan so that I can go this year. The school isn't paying for my registration. Are any of you taking your child with autism? Guest guest
I will be there but no way would my son be able to go. I wouldn't be able to keep him occupied and he would be sooooo bored. I don't know how your son does in lectures. If he can read a book or have something to do he should be fine. I have gone since the first one, I think over 10 years ago. They are great but the best is getting to talk with other parents. There are a few people who take their children but honestly they usually are either sitting outside the door or in the back of the room and are tending to their child and seem to be missing the info. It all certainly depends on your son. Hopefully it will work out. in Austin Texas Conference Will there be many of you at the Texas Autism Conference next week? I will be going for the first time. Usually I stay home and care for Tristan so my daughter can go. This year we are all 3 going and I am concerned with how Tristan will do those 3 days. Are any of you taking your child? Guest guest
Hi Donna! I am new to the group and I live in Houston...where is the conference?? I can give you a couple of choices and also when is the conference? Thanks! Crystal Iscovitz FBPOM Peer Assistance & Leadership Support (PALs) FBPOM Treasurer Home: 281-403-4990  ~   Cell: 713-419-1342    From: ajaoky@... <ajaoky@...> Subject: texas conference ajao_young_adults , Date: Saturday, March 21, 2009, 6:46 PM I am trying to make plans to be in Houston for the conference and as always finances are my biggest concern and reason for not attending. One idea I am debating is staying at a hotel other than the Hilton. I have done a little bit of searching and have found several more affordable hotels. I am a simple,?easy to please kind of gal but I do not know the area at all. If anyone has any insight or ideas please let me know. I miss everyone and do not want to miss this chance to see my " other " family. As it stands we will drive to save a few more bucks so we will have transportation from one hotel to the other. If we had our way, we would fly and stay at the Hilton but it just does not look good. Any ideas?? Donna
Guest guest
We have never been able to make it to a conference but there is an annual JRA conference. This year it is in Texas. You can find out more about it here: http://www.arthritis.org/media/JA_Brochure.pdf It will be held July 9-12 at Hilton Americas in Houston, Texas. e, mom to " joe " 22, polylupus

Guest guest
The conference is the 2009 Juvenile Arthritis Conference in Houston TX. If you go to www.arthritis.org you can find info under events. There are sometimes scholarships awarded to help people afford to go. Every year some on the list go and learn more about treatments, dealing with the disease, etc and they meet others from all over the world (once Jo and Bayley made it all the way from Australia!) who have the disease. Lots of info there, plus the chance to meet each other. Sometimes folks from the list meet up at the conference. Check out the website - I have often wanted to go, but have not made it myself. Guest guest
I would like that. My problem has always been either a volleyball or softball tournament at that time of year. Now that Jenn is done, my schedule may open up a bit. Have to watch for one in the middle! Michele ________________________________ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Robbin40@... Guest guest
I agree, make the conference so at least everyone has a 50/50 chance of being able to attend. I am in KY and the West Coast is toooo far and the East coast isn't much closer and TX, well we are reluctantly driving just so can I see old friends and meet new ones. Kinda crazy but so worth it. Ohio, Indiana or even Tennessee would be nice..... Donna

Guest guest
I think Indy would be nice too. Having been there for many volleyball tournaments, I love the way the downtown is set up. You have hotels connected to the convention center and the mall, plus decent not too expensive restaurants within walking distance. Of course, Chicago would be easiest for me - take the train down and go home each night!
