Guest guest
Sending some prayers right now! I hope you figure out what is going on - perhaps something to do with the injections? Keep us updated as you can, Hugs, Michele ( 21, spondy) ________________________________ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of J. Cassady Sent: Wednesday, April 22, 2009 1:16 PM Subject: prayers requested please Hello everyone, I was wondering if all of you would mind praying for . She had her 16 steroid injections on Monday and was admitted to the Children's hospital yesterday. I tought she was having a seizure and called the ambulance to come get her yesterday morning. The EMS guys didn't think it was a seizure, but knew something wasn't right. Her feet, legs, fingers, jaws, eyes and neck all started to spasm and curl. This has never happened before. They gave her benedryl in the ambulance on the was to the ER and it helped a little. Then when we got in the ER room they gave her vallium. They said she was having a dystonic drug reaction. Basically they say she is having some sort of drug reaction that is causing muscle spasms and all of her muscles are spasming. The only problem is she's not on any medications that normally cause this type of reaction. So, she was fine for about 3 hours in the ER and they had decided to let us go home. As soon as we got her outside she felt her toes start to curl back again and I saw her fingers start to curl. I wheeled her back in and they decided to admit her. We are still here and they keep telling me it is a drug reaction, but still no one can tell me what it's from. I did read that it could be neurological so I don't understand why they don't have a neurologist come in and check her out. Her rheumy doesn't think it's any of her meds because she's been on them all at least 3 months. He said they would have caused a reaction already. So, please say a prayer for her to get better soon and for me because I am just so frustrated at this point. Thank you all. and

Guest guest
Sophie, Thank you for asking. is feeling better, but unfortunately I don't have any more answers today than I did last week. She is still having a few mild episodes. She has been on Benedryl. We give her vallium when it gets too bad (which isn't often anymore). We have an appointment with the neurologist, but not until the beginning of June. We did go to the pulmonologist this morning and the rheumy this afternoon. We've had the appointment with the pulmonologist scheduled for a few weeks now because we think has restless leg syndrome. He did mention that we go see a neurologist for that as well, but ordered a sleep study in the meantime. I did mention the dystonic episodes to him and he said he will order extensive EEG studies when the sleep study is done. He said the neurologist would order these tests anyways. The rheumy doesn't think that any of her current medications would cause the dystonic reaction so he was at a loss especially since she is still having mild episodes. He suggested a neurologist as well so I will be calling them tomorrow to see if they can get us in sooner. is terrified of this happening again at the severity that it did last week. She had several episodes on Tuesday but one of them was very frightening as her jaw was clinched and twisted and her legs, feet, toes, fingers and neck were all clinched and tight. The basic definition of dystonic reaction is a muscle spasm caused by a medication reaction, but she was not taking any of the medications that normally cause this type of reaction. So, I don't know. Maybe it was a reaction to a medication she had when she had her injections, I don't know, but the rheumy doesn't think so. I will let you all know when and if I find out anything else. Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. and > > From: J.
