Guest guest
Hi, Beth. I'm a little late to the discussion, sorry. My daughter has IgA, IgG, IgM deficiencies. For her, IgG therapy reduced the number of infections -- so far less autoimmune/arthritis/pain flare-ups. When the immune system is not " intelligent " , it may not turn on well, turns on too much, or doesn't turn off (resulting in autoimmune flare-ups...or all of the above). So, exposure to infections is a BIG problem. I found that the IgG " softened " her pain. It was not a magic bullet by any stretch (maybe because she is getting a dose to prevent infection but not high enough to stop any autoimmune stuff...which would double her dose of plasma...and that has risks as well). But, IgG did help her. If your child has a questionable " low " immune system and chronic infections (e.g., recurrent sinus), I'd make sure your immunologist is monitoring her correctly. If you have any doubts, call the Immune Deficiency Foundation and see if they can guide you to an immuno that works with a rheumy. (Most don't--and don't get " it " ). Best wishes, JEssica mom to Dani, CVID, Pauci?
