Guest guest
Diane, I did sent off the application to the state already. So, I guess we will just see what they have to say. It was interesting to here you speak about respite service. I coordinater respite and habilitation services and hire the staff to provide these services. I love my job, because I know I am getting to make a real difference in people's lives and giving them a little ray of sunshine or at least a couple of extra hands to help out! :-) (aundrea 12 systemic jra/gerd) > > > Well, I got the call today from our > > insurance broker that > > all of our > > > family was approved for health insurance except > > for Aundrea. > > > > > > We signed up for a HSA account through united > > health care with > > Golden > > > Rule. > > > > > > I called to find out why they denied Aundrea and > > she told me that > > the > > > underwriters automatically deny anyone that has a > > diagnosis of > > > rheumatoid. Guest guest
When I spoke with the insurance broker for group plans he said that is against federal law to deny coverage...but this only applies to GROUP insurance. So if you aren't working for a company that has it or for some other reason you are needing to apply for individual insurance I guess they are allowed to deny whoever they want. I by their statement it's clear that they will never willingly accept " rheumatoid " patients! Sickening isn't it. Guest guest
I did try that route. I asked her if I could just have the dr write arthralgia " joint paint " , but she said that the chart says systemic juvenile rheumatoid arthritis and there is no changing that. I know that Aundrea's previous rheumy had this in her chart as well as the first one that she had. Of course her primary doctors also have either systemic jra or just jra. There was the pedi rheumy that she saw twice that questioned the jra dx and said hypermobility. It would be hard to go back and undo 5 years of medical records. The circle of visits and specialists is just to long. Hopefully, it will all work out getting her on the group plan. On a positive note, she did have a very good day today! :-) How is Miss hannah doing? Please keep us posted. Could you put unspecified arthritis instead of JRA since you like us have been given different answers from different doctors. Not all arthritis is rheumatoid and that way they maybe would not deny her? Guest guest
, In my world then, you are right up there next to God!! Maggie is not my only child and my other children (even though they are much older) need me to be there for them sometimes too! She has had the waiver since she was 4 and we have had the same woman taking care of her since then also. I will admit at first it was very hard to leave her, I didn't think anyone could care for her as well as my husband her older sisters or I could. I know now that is not the case, we take care of her much better now because we have a break once and awhile. She also loves to have " Trish " come to visit or take her out without us hovering over her! It is an awesome plan all the way around!! Good luck with everything! You and your family are in our prayers! Guest guest
SOnia Does your employer offer insurance? I believe that if it is through your employer, they cannot deny anyone in your family coverage. It is the individual plans through brokers that can deny coverage. I think others have already chimed in, but do visit your FSSA office and even contact your senators/congressman about your plight. and Rob 18 JAS Re: Denied health insurance coverage > , > In my world then, you are right up there next to > God!! > Maggie is not my only child and my other children > (even though they are much older) need me to be there > for them sometimes too! > She has had the waiver since she was 4 and we have > had the same woman taking care of her since then > also. > I will admit at first it was very hard to leave her, > I didn't think anyone could care for her as well as my > husband her older sisters or I could. Guest guest
Hi : Let's hope your latest paperwork will get her covered. I also thought with a group plan they can't single out one person. When Mike changed employers almost 12 years ago we changed insurance. I was already pregnant with Hannah at the time and of course we disclosed that she was an asthmatic. It was never challenged. Then three or four years later the health company we were using closed down and we switched to United Healthcare and again we were not denied. I've heard of people with asthma being denied, which is so ridiculous. Anyway, I hope the group coverage comes through. Hannah is hanging in there. She is gearing up for her shows next weekend. Since she has been flaring, I'm a little worried what that will mean for her. She has a show on Thursday night; 3 on Friday; 2 on Saturday and one Sunday afternoon. I just hope her knees and/or ankles don't give out on her. Otherwise we are trying to stay warm and are REALLY tired of snow. I know this is Wisconsin, but this winter has been ridiculous. I think I found a genetics doctor also that might be a good fit. The problem is, he's in Cincinnati, so I have to find out how insurance works out of state. Glad Drea had a good day. Tell her Hannah loved her website and once her shows are over next weekend, she'll be back on line again. Hugs to both of you!! Beth & Hannah, 11, unspecified arthritis; asthma; gerd; migraines Sending prayers & happy thoughts, Beth :-) Re: Denied health insurance coverage > > Thank you all for your comments. Guest guest
If she hasn't been treated for the last six months, according to what I read at that HIPPA website, they cannot consider it a pre-existing condition. At least that is the way I read that. If you have not yet checked that site out, please do. I am not sure if it only applies to people getting insurance through work, or just insurance in general. I'll keep reading. Guest guest
, We are trying to get things worked out through my employer. I was past the the open enrollment date but my boss is helping me work around this by doing it through Bob, since he was recently hired on with my agency. Of course this whole things has me thinking down the road. I remember this came up when Rob went off to college and he had to take so many credits in order to be on your insurance. What happens if a child isn't able to be a " full-time " college student? (aundrea 12 systemic jra/gerd)-- - In , snooksmama@... wrote: > > SOnia > Does your employer offer insurance? Guest guest
Hi , I haven't posted in a very long time, but I had posted a couple of years ago when we were having a very hard time trying to get Humira for our daughter. We ended up going to our County Assistance Office and learned that children in PA with chronic conditions can get a Medicaid card regardless of income. My husband and I both work full- time with good salaries, so we were really surprised that she qualified. We had to provide a bunch of information, even income information, but they have a process where they reject you based on income but then do a medical review to assess medical disability. has no physical limitations, and the Systemic JRA diagnosis was enough to qualify. Check with your assistance office to see if they have a program like that in your state. I know insurance issues can be very frustrating and discouraging. Take care, and I hope you find the answer soon!
