I don't know anything about systemic rashes, but I would say a med reaction is

highly likely. I would have it looked at tomorrow if it persists.

Strange Rash...any ideas?

Hi gang, Aundrea is getting this strange rash all day. I will try to

post pictures. Basically she gets this red flat area and then there

is a slightly raised areas which appears to be a like a mosiquito

bite although some areas are more like a quarter in diameter. Other

sections are completely red like a sunburn...her upperback looks

burned. Her hips and rib cage and under arms have the raised

blisters in addition to the red flat rash.

She has been on Zithromax for 4 days for treatment of pneumonia. She

ran a fever of 102-103 for 7 days..spiked in afternoons and had night

sweats, slight sore throat, coughing and headache. She is also

taking a cough med with hydrocodone.

Benadryl relieved the itching and the rash cleared up this morning.

8 hours later it returned again. She is also having nightly joint

pain, primarily in ankles.

Prior to the pneumonia diagnosis she had been sick about 3 weeks

before with a cold.

So, any ideas on what might be going on. I don't know if this is

systemic in nature or maybe a reaction to the antibiotic. Of course

it's christmas day so my plan is to go back to urgent care tomorrow.

Just wondered if anyone else might have an idea as to what could be

going on.

I posted the pics to the my photo album for Aundrea. They will need

to be approved first. Once I figure out what the rash is I will post

that info as well.

Probably just a reaction to the med at least that's what I hope it

is. She is has been on zithromax before though and never had a

problem.

My 1st thought was a medication reaction. I have found since Nicks DX, he has

become allergic to many things that before DX worked well for him.

I have come to my OWN conclusion that because his immune system has gone

haywire, it now reacts to things it never use to. We now carry an epi pen with

us because of a new allergy to bee stings. Hes also become allergic to

penicillins, chphalasporins and cats . All 4 of these things were not an issue

prior to DX.

Just some food for thought.

I hope she's doing better today and you get some answers, let us know what you

find out.

Helen - I just read your post about Nick being suicidal. I am sooo

sorry to hear that! He will be in my prayers. You are right, that

is way too much for a 10 year old to deal with. I pray he will get

the help he needs to deal with his emotions!
