Good news is that I saw the culture results. It is NOT MRSA. It is a major staph

infection though. Doc said it was a 4+ which I guess is bad. But the good news

is that the culture showed that the medicine she is on is highly susceptible at

killing it. It is a nasty infection and this doc said it would just take time.

He does not want to cut into it more. And to stop the heat packs. He just wants

her to keep it clean and covered and watch for increased growth in elevation not

in circumference. So we will see what happens. Her 10 days will be up on Sunday

I think so if it does not look good by the day after Christmas (once the

antibiotics are stopped) we need to go back to clinic. She had to skip her MTX

this week but will probably take it next week. Her Remicade is not due for

another week thankfully. It is so frustrating that they keep coming and getting

worse with time.

And people say arthritis is just an aching joint!!!!!

e,

I am glad that it is not MRSA but wish it would clear up quicker then it is.

I pray that by Christmas you will be seeing improvement and that the pain will

be much less. I have a lady that I work with that has had two infections that

sound similar to Joe's. Both hers were on her fingers the first one on her

right had and then a couple weeks later, the second on her left hand. She said

they had her on just about the strongest antibiotic out there and hers is

finally getting better. They had to lance them both and drain them. Her's also

is a

staph infection and a really bad one. I pray that Joe can enjoy her Christmas

break, get some rest and that you all will have a great time together. As

always, keep us posted on how she improves.

Hi e,

Hope your daughter responds quickly to the antibiotics. You are absolutely

right that arthritis is much more than aching joints. Also, all these new

medicines, like remicade, which are so great in controlling the arthritis,

bring on a whole slew of other problems, like really bad infections. Good

luck and I hope she feels better soon. (and Ezra, 11 yr old systemic)

e:

I'm glad its not MRSA, but staph can be just as hard to treat. Hope this

antibiotic wipes it out and she feels great for Christmas. Is she home now

until after Christmas or still finishing up school? Keep us posted.

hmmm, its interesting that he isn't concerned if it grows in

circumfrence. I really would think that if this is the right

antibiotic for the job she would have more improvement by now. Keep

a close watch on her for any sign of fever. Sounds like whatever

this infection it is, it warrants watching very closely.

track of her skin infections because has similar problems.Knock on wood

not as severe but it was just a few months ago I was tempted to take him of

Enbrel.

I know you still have alot of work cut out for you getting this infection healed

but praise lord it's not deadly.

I have never realy talked to you much but I do think of you often and am realy

happy to get the update.

You have a wonderful daughter and you are a great mom.You can't stop just

because they come of age and go off to school.I have so much respect for you and

hope you have a very merry Christmas.
