OT: update & question re: asthma

I had Hannah in today to see her allergy/immunology doctor and I have a

question. Let me give an update first. Since her Thanksgiving sinus

infection/migraine yuck, she has developed yet another head cold. Just 2 weeks

off antibiotics. She did not feel this was a sinus infection (yet). Her cough

from the first one never went away and her peak flows are no where near where

they are supposed to be. She only scored a 15 on her asthma control test today

(ideal is 20+). So she upped her Advair to the highest dose they make 500/50.

She was going to change her to Symbicort, but its a lot more expensive.

I asked about potential allergy triggers for migraines and asked to have her

tested for latex allergies. I know many of you have kids with asthma and

migraines, so I'm wondering your thoughts on a connection. She drew blood for

the latex and if that comes back negative, she will do patch testing on her

which is more chemical specific (she thinks Hannah's reactions are more

dermatology related). The other thing she did and I might be confused on this

is that she drew blood for other allergies. I thought she said it will show the

same allergies that skin testing does, but we already did the skin testing.

Anyone with experience with blood allergy testing. Do you know what they are

looking for? This is the only docotor we love at Children's and we tend to chat

a little too much and I forget to write everything down :)

Beth & Hannah, 11, unspecified arthritis; asthma; gerd; migraines

Sending prayers & happy thoughts,

Beth :-)
