I had Mcgahn 325 smooth saline implants... I had my

implants in about 14 months with no problems. I Loved

my big beautiful breast and then the horror started.

To make a very long story short...I had the implants

removed and the cultures around the implant and tissue

came back positive for staph. I was very very sick!

The surgeon was shocked, he did not feel the implants

were the source of my problems. Most of the symptoms

disappeared after the implants were removed. I got all

of my energy back and did not have the aches and pains

as I did before. It has taken a while to get my immune

system back into shape...My lymph nodes were greatly

affected. I had the implants removed in December of

2000. I am left with skin attached to my chest

wall(ribs) which is not very attractive but through

this great big mess I have thanked God for my life and

learned to love my very very small breast. Ten days

after having the implants out I took the compression

vest off...put on a spag. strap evening dress and

attended a formal party with my husband. I got more

compliments that night than ever before. I felt as

though I got a second chance on life and I am very

grateful for that!!!!

Getting back to the subject...Smooth saline implants

are not any more safe!!!!!!!!!!

Please do not misquote me on this site. I did not say that I believe smooth

implants are safe. I did say that I observed that smooth implants were

safer than textured and this is the experience of many of the doctors taking

care of saline patients with problems. I am also disturbed by the

emotionally based comments on the site. This has happened before and serves

no purpose for the good of the group. Please have the maturity to discuss

your differences of opinion without attacking others. .

I am not trying to argue with you nor do I feel I am being emotional,

so please do not treat me in such a condescending manner. I am not a

Dr so maybe my opinions are not as respected as yours, however I am

just trying to find out how many people have smooth and how many have

textured implants and are sick. It seems at least from my

communications with others that there is no safe implant and that

women are ill from both types of implants. I am sorry if I misquoted

you, or misunderstood you on this matter, I guess it was my

assumption that since you implant women with smooth implants and have

them in your own body that you must have the opinion that they are

safe. If I was wrong about this then I apologize for that.

I am curious if you had the silicone antibody blood test before you

were reimplanted with saline implants after you had your leaking gel

implants removed. Do you suggest that your patients get this test

before implantation with smooth implants?

If you are trying to demonstrate that I am emotional after 2 years of

hell being extremely ill, having to undergo 5 hours of surgery to

remove my implants, well yes I am pretty emotional I would not

argue that point in the least. It was my understanding, but please do

correct me if I am wrong, that you were sick from your gel implants,

so I asumed that you would have taken this silicone test before

reimplanting with saline implants. Please do share with us how you

are now? Are all of your health problems completely resolved? If so

you are very lucky, as I don't know too many women who had leaking

gel implants who have faired so well. I hope that your health remains

with you over the years with your implants, most of us on this site

are not so lucky and have lost our beautiful full breasts and have

not much left and this is a constant reminder of what we have been

through and no matter how hard we try to accept ourselves this way it

is hard and a struggle everyday of out lives, we were not fortunate

to be able to keep our breasts and our health, so please try to

understand why we or at least myself, might be a bit emotional and

upset about what I have been through, I realize that anger and

sadness are not good for my health and I try very hard to take care

of myself and let it go, but sometimes when I take off my waterbra

and look at my deflated breasts I feel sadness that you, with your

still implanted breasts, may or may not be able to understand, so the

next time you speak out to me about emotions, remember I have been

through allot and it is not easy for me. I appreciate some compassion

especially from someone like you who has been through what you say

you have been through with implants, obviously you didn't want to

have deflated empty breasts even though you were ill so you don't

know what that feels like. Thank you for understanding

This is a great testimony! You are braver than I could have been,

especially 10 days after explant. And to know that you were highly

complimented makes it even more sweet.

Thank you for sharing that with us, and you are so right....we do have so

much to be thankful for. It is all a matter of perspective.

Dear Dr.Kolb,

Everyday I try to release these emotions that do not serve me,

however my emotions have served me in many ways, they have kept me

from swalowing a bottle of pills when I was still implanted and so

sick I thought I was dying, they have kept me fighting when others

have given up, they have kept me alive, so sometimes some forms of

anger can be beneficial to us, wheather or not you see that is you

own opinion. I am a fighter, even when I have pain I get up and go to

work, even when I am feeling sick I still go to the gym and get my

exercise in, even when I am lacking any stregnth at all I speak out

to help others in my situation.

You state that I am directing my anger at you, your wrong, it is not

anger, it is absolute disbelief that you can sit there with implants

in your body and understand what I or anyother women who has been

through explant is feeling. Are you that cold hearted?

Are you trying to say that by having implants you are helping us in

our cause of banning implants? I don't see how that can be. Most of

us have had our lives and out health destroyed by these devices and

while you say you are an advocate for us, you still implant women and

therefore I see that as a sign of greed. where is the oath that you

took and first do no harm? How do you live with yourself knowing that

you are hurting women by implanting them. I am sorry but you

represent something very bad to me and I am not the only one who

feels this way, I am speaking for many others who are afraid to speak

up to you because of your mean responses to us.

There are many women who feel that you are exploiting this isssue to

your own finacial gain. You do the explants and the implants and make

money from both ends and you can argue it anyway you choose but that

is what it boils down too.

If you want to have me thrown off the group because I am not on your

bandwagon or because you think I am angry or whatever else you think

about me then fine, but if I was you I would really take a look at

the image you portray in public with your stance on this issue. I

will watch your fox interview and see what it is all about but it

seems to me that if it is anythinglike your glamour interview you

where you were the pro person then it will be a waste of time. You

claim to care about silicone women but I am just not seeing much kind

or compassionate behavior on this site by you. Don't you see by

having implants still in your body you are a spokeswoman for

implants, not implant sickened women. If you were explanted you

wpould be a spokeswoman for all of us who are ill. By still having

htem all your saying is that they are safe, and that you are living

proof of this.

I am really happy for you that you got to keep you implants and I

hope for your sake you stay nice and helathy and are lucky unlike the

rest of us on this site who remain in a state of constant pain and

struggle. I hope this makes you appreciate your good health and I
