Guest guest
So I'm going through my old mail and find blood results that apparently I had never opened. Once again its showing I'm anemic, in June though my blood tests were starting to show a huge improvement and many of them had returned to normal. My hemoglobin is now at a 10 (it was 11 the first time I came up anemic). My hematacrit is at 33, MCV 76.4, and MCH 25.4. And once again my RDW is high at 17.9 now (was at 15.1). It is once again showing that I have an abnormally high glucose 117 (but they say if I wasn't fasting I shouldn't be worried.)Here's the weird thing, my white blood cell count is starting to get weird numbers too. My percentage of neurtrophils in May was 69.6% and in July its now up to 77.5% and I have absolutely 0 EOS cells but in may my count was normal at .13 and 1.7% so I'm not sure what is going on but its a little strange, oh and once again my Albumin is low. I'm not sure what is going on but its a little weird. Anyone have any ideas here..love always (JAS, 22) Got a little couch potato? Check out fun summer activities for kids. Guest guest
hi ,I was just given literature to read by my daughter's rheumy, and it was mentioning how immunosuppressant meds (methotrexate, etc) may cause anemia and low white blood cell count. It sounds like these lab results are something that should be discussed with your prescribing dr if you are currently on an immunosuppressant. Did your dr that ordered the labs give a follow-up call, or have you make a follow-up appt? Beyond what I happened to be reading this evening, I am used to ill-equipped to offer you advice. My best suggestion would be to phone your dr ...Keep us posted.nancy (amanda, 17, poly) Salvucci <lsalvucci42@...> wrote: So I'm going through my old mail and find blood results that apparently I had never opened. Guest guest
, My experience with Labs results is making sure it is done by the same lab each time. Depending on who does the labs it can change. Keeping a eye on this like you are doing is Great. But look at who did the labs last time. As if a lab out of a Geographical area can use a different Range scale. As in the Certain Range level it will be different in that area. Some people in one area it may be normal for a Glucose to be 140 but it may mean high in another area and their range may be 110 being to high. This is with all labs. I will show you off 's Labs compared to you. But it is worth calling the Dr and asking about it no matter what ok. RDW was 12.0 Normal is 11.5 - 15.5 2006 RDW was 12.0 Normal is 11,5 - 14.5 2005 These were done in 2 different geographical areas ok MCV was 86 Normal is 81 - 99 2006 MCV was 83.3 Normal is 80.0 - 100.0 2005 MCH was 30 Normal is 27 - 31 2006 MCH was 31.9 Normal is 31.0 - 37.0 2005 MCHC was 35 Normal is 32 - 36 2006 MCHC was 38 Normal is 31 - 37 2005 H Hematacrit was 44.2 Normal is 37 - 47 2006 Hematacrit was 41.4 Normal is 36 - 46 2005 Neutrophils was 58 Normal is 43 - 70 2006 Neutrophils was 40 Normal is 39 - 69 2006 EOS was 1 Normal is 0 - 7 2006 EOS was 1.5 Normal is 0 - 5 2005 Glucose was 77 Normal is 70 - 110 2006 Glucose was 54 Normal is 75 - 95 2005 L This is just some of how different labs have their Range They go by. Guest guest
I was on immune suppressing medication for a very long time and then a year ago took myself off of all medication. I have had some form of JA since I was about 6.5-7 years old (poly JRA was my first diagnosis and as I got older then started saying it was more typical of a JAS.. rheumatologists are confusing). I've been off the meds for actually over a year now come to think of it and seeing as I never had anemia while on them that's why its confusing me even more. If I was still on all the medication I would understand it, but it just seems weird to me to have all of this coming out of no where. I found out about my blood results from the stupid lab slips they send in the mail two to three weeks after your appointment the one with all the blood results, they had never even called to tell me that there was a dip in my blood counts again. I have a physical this morning though and they will definitely be hearing about it from me. I'd like them to figure this out once and for all. It seems strange that even with iron pills and increasing iron rich foods that my numbers would still be dipping.. Guest guest
Haha actually the reason I started to pay attention to my numbers and only getting my blood drawn from the same lab was because of you! You told me awhile back to make sure I was tracking all that, and its a good thing because my doctors are obviously not paying very close attention. So same lab, same phlebatologist even (nice guy sings the entire time he's taking your blood.. not weird at all). I have a doctors appointment today for a routine physical and Its with my actual GP soo I'm going to discuss this all with her and make sure that from now on they call me with my blood results if there is any L's or H's on my paper. Guest guest
So the doctor looked over the past few months of blood results and agrees that there is something weird going on. So they ran a bunch of blood tests for iron storage, platelet function, and bleeding time and some other stuff that I failed to pay attention to. She was really sweet about it though and said she would try her hardest to figure out when my hemoglobin and hematocrit continue to drop. She also tested me for some form of genetic anemia that could also explain why my body was doing this. I also got the HPV vaccine because apparetnly she thought it was good idea, it hurt a bit, but its nice to know that I could potentially avoid getting cervical cancer. Tomorrow I have an appointment with the pulmonologist and the 30th with the rheumy. Hopefully they can get everything figured out and I can get back to normal life. Guest guest
, There is a thing called "anemia of chronic disease" or something like that. All the iron and supplements in the world will not correct it. It just means that your body is too busy worrying about the arthritis and such that it just does not have time to build cells and/or it kills the cells. Been through that one with my daughter. When her arthritis settled down her counts came up. Hope that helps and makes sense. e, mom to joe 20 poly+ Salvucci <lsalvucci42@...> wrote: Haha actually the reason I started to pay attention to my numbers and only getting my blood drawn from the same lab was because of you!
