Guest guest
Hi again , I neglected to also say that Beam requires a little time to filter out sound before it works optimally. I've heard people say it takes as little as 15 seconds. For me it seems to be more like 30-40 seconds, maybe more. I don't know how to explain it well (Mike?) but Beam as well as other pre-processing features take a bit of time to sort out the sounds to determine what to modulate, what to focus on. Deb Deborah H <gypsyheart1963@...> wrote: , I may be completely out in left field on this, because I haven't seen the communication that led to this email you addressed to today. But! I've not experienced Beam as best when noise is behind me. The whole purpose of Beam to to create what I call a shield against the noise around me when I'm trying to have a conversation with someone. Bear in mind that they have recently advised that Beam be used with the sensitivity set at number 6, and it only works for hearing sound within the range that Beam reaches. Also, I personally find that in extremely noisy places (of course that is relative but I mean truly extremely noisy places) and places with high ceilings--perhaps poor acoustics--Beam is of limited use to me. Someone on an earlier post had said it works better if you have all the noise behind you, and if this is the case, it will have limiting capability for those of us who are blind also. In adjusting to the Freedom I was more inclined to stay with Ace with Auto Sensitivity than to try ADRO but now want to try it. __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Deb, I appreciate you sharing your experiences with Beam. I know I tried longer than 40 seconds and to no avail, but perhaps the locations were too noisy. I hope to get Beam again to try it once more. Others have said it works better with the noise behind you, but I cannot say for sure myself.
Guest guest
, I am starting to use beam in quiet situations...like talking to someone in my house or theirs. I find it a little too loud in a noisy situation, and rely on ace with sensitivity.
Guest guest
I too, found BEAM to be of limited use when I first tried it a few weeks ago. I was told that BEAM worked better when one could get the sound behind you, but obviously this would be difficult/impossible for the blind users. However, since that time I have been using ADRO more for everyday use. Previosly I had Programme 1 as normal, then the same Pr with autosensitivity, Whisper and ADRO on 2, 3 and 4. Now that I am used to using ADRO all the time, I will have a spare slot in the normal position, because normal doesnt sound too good to me now I am used to ADRO. Have I confused everybody yet :-) So, the next time I see my audi for mapping, I will get ADRO on 1, Autosensitivity on 2, Whisper on 3 and BEAM on 4. Guest guest
Ted F. Those are the four programs I have also Ted. Just a note to give you something to think about. I asked my audie to put the programs in this order: ADRO, BEAM, WHISPER, and Audosensitivity. Now my reasoning--when I am in the car (or a noisy situation) I put my CI on autosensitivity to block out the road noise or whatever but I was finding it inconvenient to get to ADRO in a hurry (like when I would leave the car and walk into an office or drive up to the bank teller and wanted ADRO)so by putting Autosensitivity last and ADRO first I only have to press the button once and I am there. Call me lazy but sometimes I like to be able to leave auto sensitivity quickly. Just some food for thought and maybe someone else has a better suggestion/commnent. Connie --- " Ted F. Guest guest
Thanks, Connie. Good thinking. I'll switch ADRO and Autosensitivity 1 - Autosensitivity 2 - ADRO 3 - Whisper 4 - BEAM Ted F. > > > > > Now that I am used to using ADRO all the time, I > > will have a spare slot > > in the normal position, because normal doesnt sound > > too good to me now > > I am used to ADRO. Guest guest
I second that. n gets a PFT /DLCO and a CT scan every six months. Interstitial Lung Disease or fibrosis was a consideration for n. Good luck.
