Hi April,

I think you are doing fine. In my experience, I had some discomfort,

sore jaws, slight earache, actually more like a toothache...even some

dizziness. But I found that every day I made improvement and never was

I so uncomfortable that I could not tolerate it. At first I took

regular tylenol ever 4 hours, and gradually I needed it less and less.

One day I felt so good but had to practically pry my sore jaws open to

eat my pizza! LOL There is no stopping me from eating pizza!

Hang in there, one day you'll realize your tongue is back to normal

again!

Hello all

First, , I am keeping your friend with breast cancer in my

prayers.

Second, thanks to all who responded with wonderful thoughts and

suggestions about getting Rob's surgery approved.

Monday we had a doctor-to-doctor consult (what a joke, the insurance

doctor has never laid eyes on Rob) and our surgeon must have been pretty

pursuasive, because they still didn't deny him, but they haven't approved

him either, yet...

The insurance 'doctor' wants Rob to see cardiology (oh yes, lets spend

some more money and cost me another co-pay) and have the cardiologist

call him and explain why Rob needs the surgery. So off we go tomorrow

morning for a visit and another echo. Prayers are greatly appreciated! I

had better have an answer by Thursday or they will have a screaming mama

on their phone lines, and a family member who is an attorney breathing

down their neck. I've already contacted the attorney generals office,

department of insurance to begin filing a complaint, which I will do

whether or not the surgery is approved. This has been ridiculous to say

the least, we started the precert process on May 22.

Please pray this works out. Thank you!

Sending prayers & happy thoughts,

Beth :-)

Hi, . Sending prayers that this

ridiculous situation gets resolved and the surgery can go ahead as scheduled.

How crazy that they want you to spend more of your money and theirs by seeing

cardiology. As if you would want to put your son through this surgery for no

reason! Of course he must need this why else would you be going through all of

this. I don’t blame you for filing the complaint. Good luck and I hope

you will have no reason to be screaming! Michele ( 20, spondy)

Im so glad you posted this I thought the same thing. The blood clots are a risk and it is not the Dr's fault. Dr A's reputation is still great and I had complications after my surgery. Ended up in the hospital and that was not my fault nor was it Dr A's fault. It was just bad luck for me.

I am sorry to hear about your sleeve buddy, she was fortunate that they caught the clots on time and have her on blood thinners. I do not understand though why you say do not believe everything you read about Dr. A. You do know that this is not his fault either? This is a risk of surgery, nothing he did caused the clots. In fact I got blood thinners the day to surgery to help prevent them, I am sure you did too and so did this lady that had them. Like you say this is a risk of surgery, any surgery. My mom is prone to blood clots, she already knows this and she gets blood thinners after any procedure that can cause her one. I am assuming this will be the case for this lady with any future surgeries. Instead of implying that Dr. A's reputation is not real I would suggest everyone to ask

questions when you are researching. Ask how common it is t get a blood clot so you can decide if this is a risk you want to take. If you are prone to blood clots ask for blood thinners. The patient also has an important part in preventing blood clots , walk as much as you can and as often as you can. Do breathing exercises to prevent other complications. What the nurses or doctors tell you to do is to prevent complications and help us heal better. As a patient do your part and complications do get minimized. The doctor can only do so much the rest is up to us and fate.

Hi everyone,It's been 2 weeks since my surgery and I'm doing great. I hated the clear liquid week and mercifully, I am on the creamy stage. I'm looking forward to having some blended food next week! I'm down 25 pounds, my shirts are getting bigger and my energy is returning. I also wanted to tell those getting or considering the surgery not to believe everything they read about Dr. A. His reputation may be great but there are complications that can and do occur that can or cannot be your fault. I'm sad to report that a woman who had the surgery the same day as me has landed in the hospital at home because she could not keep anything down; the doctors diagnosed her with blood clots and she's on blood thinners for the next 6 months. Was this her fault, no way. She's very fortunate her doctor caught the blood clots in her pancreas because this could have gone way worse than it did. Dr A is a wonderful doctor and his staff is great, but

as with any surgery there are risks. One piece of advice I have. If you are going out to a restaurant, ask for the nutritional information for their menu; sometimes you can find it online. It makes it a lot easier to make healthy choices. Just because it may sound healthy, does not make it so!

Thank You for telling the truth….it’s much

appreciated and you are correct, they are not GOD.

I should have known better than to post something like

that. You people keep thinking he's such a god, but he's a human and does make

mistakes. My friend did everything to a 't'. Dr A's reaction to this situation?

Well he said he's never heard of anyone having blood clots. Had he said shown a

little more concern, maybe I'd be a little more calm. Honestly, had this not

been caught on time, she would have died. So forgive me if I'm a little angry.

I am following the instructions as well but knowing that she's had problems and

her surgery was 2 hours before mine makes me a little nervous if I will have

some complications. I'm darn thankful that so far I haven't experienced

anything like that and hopes it continues. I do not regret my decision to have

surgery and am very careful what I eat with my new tool. However, I am

realistic and know that the sleeve is a tool and I will always have to be

careful about what I eat.

I know that everyone gets so defensive about their surgeon but to imply a

god-like status to the man, or even to imply that my friend caused her own

blood clots is ridiculous. Dr A is very good at what he does but part of me

thinks that the office is somehow hiding the complication rate in order to

boost his reputation and other stats. As someone wise has pointed out to me,

there has to be more to the stats than what they are giving us because she

cannot be the first or only one that has had this happened in all this time.

I'm not that naive. This has made me think as to what else the office is hiding.

Maybe this is why I don't participate much in the forum. Anytime someone says

something real for people to consider, you lynch them. I want people to know

that complications do and can occur and not to sweep them under the rug; I've

done research on 10 doctors before deciding on Dr A and for each doctor, I've

requested the complication rate, what can happen and if they had a death I've

asked the circumstances. Most doctors are honest and forthcoming with the

information. This was a major investment in my health and financially so I was

making an informed decision. Dr A was able to do my surgery on my limited time

schedule and the flights were reasonably priced. Other surgeons I considered

were a little farther and the flights were very expensive.
