Guest guest
Stacey, Not sure which Insurance you have You can email me at Robbin40@... and I can tell you more about the Insurance Issues. Everyone has their issues with people at a office. If it is Childrens Hospital/ Clinic I would go to the Administator and complain about the service your getting. Each Children's Hospital also has a Social Services worker. Which is another way to get through to the ones who make it so hard. My Sister had Kaiser and they were fairly good but she said it was just a long wait at times. I always took my niece there for her check ups and when I would tell them something they would act on it right then. I would call the Eye Dr and set up a Appointment for your Daughter. You might get in quicker like that and get that taken care of. Just let them know the history with JRA. Call the Dentist as well. Get her seen there. When these Dr's ask why isn't she being seen by a Dr then you let them know how crazy it has been just to get a Appointment. They may help you with contacting the Dr personally. Also if the Dr has a email address heck email him. You can also call the head of Rhuematology and leave a message for him or her to contact you about a issue. Do not tell them anymore. This will get them to call back sooner. lolol. Then hit them with your issue. It's amazing how some calls can get a job taken care of. Let me know if this will help you and also there's always calling the Insurance Company it's self and complain about the service. RobbinSee what's free at AOL.com. Guest guest
was at UCLA for yrs until a ped rheumy came to vegas and we liked it. Although it was a long wait at times the doctors were really good. also has no real joint issues but has had eye issues for the last 10 yrs, however; the blood doesn’t show as bad. I say just get in to someone, even if it is UCLA so you have peace of mind. From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of stacey Sent: Saturday, April 14, 2007 9:38 AM Subject: HELP-- getting DD in @Chldren's L.A. Guest guest
Hi Stacey-I'm not sure where you live.... but another option is to try to see one of the docs at MIller Children's Hospital at LB Memorial. They don't have a resident doc anymore. Instead, several of the docs from CHLA come down each month to see patients. I know they are swamped.... but they might have an opening sooner than CHLA.The number is (562) 933-8832. The nurse's name there is Lynn and she is sent straight from heaven. There is also a social worker named . IF you call and it seems like you can't get an appointment, try asking to speak her and she might be able to advocate on your behalf. If you have any choice of which doc to see at 's, I highly recommend Dr. Reiff or Dr. Marzan....PLease let me know if I can help in any way.... I understand how frustrated you must be and nobody should have to wait that long.Best hopes-Colleen (mom to Caitlin, 9, systemic)stacey <stacey974@...> wrote: My daughter was diagmosed in 2005 with JRA. Guest guest
For your dd’s eye issues, I would get her to an eye dr as Robbin suggests. I do not have eye coverage with my insurance, and the cost is about $100 for a visit with a slit lamp test. Her eyes could be permanently affected, so I would suggest you do whatever you can to get those checked ASAP. You do not have to have insurance to go, just be ready to pay out of pocket. I know it is expensive but it is unfortunately a necessity. The eye dr can prescribe medicine for her for that. Guest guest
Yes, I was thinking of that. When my kids were little, the insurance we had did not entirely cover things like immunizations (if you can believe it) so I used to take my kids to the “shot clinics” they had for those and lead testing, etc. It was nice and free. Now that we have insurance that covers such things, I do not need to go any more. For the eye exams, I now use my employee benefits account, into which I deposit money with each paycheck, before taxes, and then I can submit anything the insurance doesn’t cover and get my money back. Like having a health savings account, but I do not have to have the money in the account in advance. The money is taken out over the course of the whole year. I put $1200 a year into it (about $50 per pay period) and get all of my money out of it usually by Sept due to co-pays for visits and prescriptions and eye visits, glasses, contacts, etc. It really helps someone like me who has a hard time saving for such things. It’s done for me. Anyway, good point about checking into the free services that should be offered, Michele ( 19, spondy) From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Robbin40@... Guest guest
hi Stacey,I have been out of the loop the past few weeks and am trying to catch up a bit - I have a 16 year old who sees a pain dr at CHLA but her rheumy is at UCLA (we live in Orange County). I would give UCLA a try...we tried getting in at CHOC (Children's Orange County) but it was 6 weeks less wait time for UCLA so that is how we ended up there...now she has an immunologist at UCLA as well. Dr. McCurdy is the rheumatologist sees...she is very sweet, has a great bedside manner and good reputation...my only frustration with her is that she is quite conservative with treatment and even vascillates occasionally on 's diagnosis (she is pretty sure she has spondlyoarthropathy). Being that Jordan already has a diagnosis, I would recommend calling over to UCLA. The number for appts is (310)825-0867. You might also try calling the rheumatology/allergy line and see if they could get you in sooner...tell them your situation...worth a try...their number is (310)206-1826.Also, am I understanding you do not have optometry insurance? I know here in North Orange County, we have a College of Optometry and they tend to be more reasonable...it takes a little longer because you see a student, then the teaching dr comes in to follow up. I have a friend who is a dr there so I also know they have some very low cost (even free?) program based on financial need.Anyway, I would consider giving UCLA a call. Welcome to the forum. Guest guest
Thank you so much for all the wonderful advice!!! It has been a long week so I'm sorry I am just now responding. I guess I didn't totally explain the eye issues very well when I first posted. Jordan does have uveitis. She goes in every 3 months or sooner if she tells me her eyes are " foggy " . The last time she was in was in February and she has 8 cells in her left and 5 in the right. WE did the drops and she's fine for now. Since her eyes were the worst they have ever been I thought Children's would be able to get her in sooner but they were no help. When all of the authos. were approved she was able to see a pediatric ortho. and we got her eyes checked within days. It's just been hell getting her in to see a new rhuemy. The authorization expires on 4/30 and I was just able to get a release signed and faxed over to her old rheumy. Children's wants ALL records from anything that says she has JRA and a recent blood draw. Her ped. called me on Thursday and said she finally was able to find out what exactly Children's wanted as far as blood tests and we did the draw yesterday. We are going on vacation and won't be home this coming week so I have no clue what is going to happen. All I do know is that we're going to need to get another autho. to get her in. I'm going to call her ped. when I have a free minute on Monday to see if it would be better to try to get her in at UCLA. I'm being referred to a clinic there so maybe I could get us in on the same days. Someone mentioned the dentist. She goes every 6 months but at her last visit I was surprised that she has 3 cavities. She brushes at least twice a day and the dentist said she had very little plaque so even he was surprised she had cavities. Should she be seen more then every 6 months? Again, thank you all so much. You guys have be a wealth of info for us. I don't post hardly ever but when I have a question about something you always come through.
