The lack of sleep can literally drain you. I started taking Antivan at night and I no longer have that fear and I sleep very well. Please give it a try. I think you will be happy with the results. You need to get rid of your anxiety. Good luck. Chet p.s. I don't feel drugged the next day either like what would happen if I were to take a sleeping pill. Different strokes for different folks. Guest guest
Wow, poor kid. I am very sorry to hear of your dilemma. Maybe a mild sedative would help. I have a 12 year old daughter that has a hard time going to sleep. She uses Melatonin. It was suggested by her doctor, and it really works, but I think because she is so deep in her sleep that she dreams a lot, and that isn't what you want here. Ask the councilor to call if there are any cancellations. ________________________________ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of jahutslar Sent: Wednesday, December 20, 2006 3:27 PM Subject: fear of sleeping I was wondering if anyone else has a child afraid of going to sleep. Kendra told me last night after a few hrs of crying that she is scared to death to go to sleep. She keeps having dreams of dying. Once she drempt that she was given the wrong arthritis med and it killed her. she said she dreams things like this alot. She said it seems so real that when she wakes up, she isn't sure if she's really alive or dead and dreaming she's alive. she is going to a counlser, but can't get back in until friday. any suggestions until then??? we both cried ourselves to sleep last night!!! thanks in advance!! Guest guest
Hi Jill: I don't have any real words of wisdom for you. I will tell you that my son, Jay, who recently turned 12 went through this a few years ago. He too would lay in bed and then come to me and say Mom I don't want to die. I asked around and found that a lot of kids go through this. Our pastor told me this is really common in kids from 8-13. They eventually grow out of this fear. For Jay it probably lasted about six months. The best thing we could do was to reassure him, tell him we love him, give lots of hugs. I would mention it to the counselor as it is something they can talk about. I honestly don't think Jay had the dreams like Kendra, but it was always at bedtime when he was trying to fall asleep. With Hannah it was completely different. She too went through this, but hers was after a major asthma attack that kept us in the ER for five hours. After that she was terrified of having an asthma attack at night and we would not hear her. We have since put a baby monitor in her room so that we can hear her and she can talk to us. That has helped a lot. Any time her asthma is flaring (like now as she battles pneumonia) that fear comes back, but she is now able to calm herself and know we will take care of her. Let me know how things go. If Kendra would like to email Hannah so they could talk Hannah would love it. Let me know and I'll send you her email address. Guest guest
HI... Haven't written in awhile as I had shoulder surgery last week and can't write too much! Great time of the year to be down and out. Clare has had some different sleep issues lately that I thought I'd mention. She doesn't have trouble getting to sleep but she has a reoccurring dream that she gets all of her joints replaced. She always wakes up and says, " darn! still in pain. " You know that when they dream about something so often, it must be so present in their brains...poor babies. We s will keep you and Kendra in our prayers. Sleep is such an important part of feeling good every day. > > Hi Jill: > > I don't have any real words of wisdom for you. Guest guest
Oh Jill, I so feel for Kendra and you as mom enduring it all. I have done the same thing so many times as a child and an adult. Just constantly reassure her as I know you do and the counseling will be a great benefit. I agree with that maybe a mild sleeping pill will help but only if it is necessary. Please know you are in our thoughts! Guest guest
hi Jill, I am no therapist, but I used to have the most vivid dreams/nightmares too as a child...about my father dying...and if he was travelling, I might dream he died and wake and not be sure if it truly happened...I can only speak for myself....it seemed to be tremendous anxiety and fears I could not express coming out in my dreams...perhaps Kendra has some fears about her illness she has not been able to verbalize that are causing this sense of terror and dread? Continue to hold her at bedtime...remind her you are there...that these are fears and feelings and scary as it is, you will help her get through this...and hopefully the therapist will have some good suggestions. Also, have you tried some guided relaxation with her? Where you have her think of her favorite place, then you guide her as she imagines this place in detail, all the smells, sounds, and other senses, etc...the therapist can probably tell you...it's a terrific relaxation technique but it takes some practice to become automatic... My heart goes out to Kendra - and to you, as you try to comfort her. and , 16, unspecified arthritis, pidd, chronic migraines jahutslar <shutslar@...> wrote: I was wondering if anyone else has a child afraid of going to sleep. Guest guest
Ok thanks!! I haven't heard anything in her room yet. I have been sleeping with her. Either in her room or in mine. Poor scott is on the couch or kendra's twin bed. But he understands that she needs me right now. I watched her sleep and once she gets to sleep she seems to be peaceful. Not a lot of moving. It's just getting her to sleep!! We looked all over town for a dream catcher and found NONE!!! UGH! So I guess I'll look online after Christmas. We go today to her counselor!! Hope she has some good helpful info for us!! Jill & Kendra 11 jra _____ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Robbin40@...
