Guest guest
It sure sounds like it could be arthritis. But of course I am not a doctor. How old is your son? ---My daughter's JRA started out in a similiar way. First it was a finger then an ankle. It went on for about 6 months before she was diagnosed. She was 7 1/2 when it started and was diagnosed around her 8th birthday. Good luck with the dr appointment! Keep us posted about what happens. I really hope it is NOT arthritis but if it is then welcome to the group! Everyone is very supportive and quite helpful.--- & Elaney(12 polyarticular JRA, heart defects, scoliosis, etc.) linuxgal77 <stanrock@...> wrote: My son has developed swollen middle finger joints. It started like 5 months ago. He had a socker accident on his hand. So a week went by and he said he couldn't bend his middle finger. So I thought that is where the ball hit into his hand. I took him into doctor for an xray. Nothing was wrong, Not broken, nothing. Just some soft tissue inflammation. Said to watch it. Time went by I still notice it stays swollen. And now his other hand middle finger joint is swollen too. They are getting more swollen as time goes on. I am going to get him into doctor monday when i can make an appt. I think he might have juvenile arthritis. He also can't walk down the stairs that well in the morning. He just says the side of his foot hurts. So he walks down different to get down. He has done that for about the same time now. But his finger joints are getting worse. I think that is what it is. Does these symptoms sound familiar to anyone? In the meantime I am going to start to give him motrin. Let me know what ya think Linuxgal __________________________________________________
Guest guest
My son is almost 8 years old. About 5 months before the onset of these symptoms he is having now. He did have a rash on his legs. ANd then on his back. I took him into doctor but we assumed it was an allergy rash, since he has bad allergies. So he was on predisone for that. But as soon as he would come off the medicine it would come back. So they would keep putting him on more predisone. Then it finally went away. I have read other people saying about a rash a fever during onset of arthritis. I looked up the pictures that people posted on this site. And the rash looked just like some other people had. Is that what happened with your daughter too? and what test need to be done to find this out or not. Thank you\ Linuxgal My son has developed swollen middle finger joints. Guest guest
My daughter had a rash for 5 months before fevers set in.We were sent to an allergist and to a skin specialist for urticaria. Finally in September Jordan was so sick she was hospitalized for over a week and put through extensive testing they first diagnosed non hodgkins lymphoma but after a few days decided it wasnt that and we continued not knowing. We then went home for a few weeks and back in the hospital for 3 more days because she was very sick.Jordan has never shown signs of the arthritis but that was because she was in the early stage. Her fever was never consistant with what some people call the SOJRA rash because it never went away, it just moved around. The doctors around here would not diagnose her until they had signs of the arthritis.I couldnt wait til that happened and I hated watching her suffer, she was losing a pound or two a day and looked horrible.I decided no matter what I would find the best doctors and help her, I was not willing to wait.So I researched and found that Boston had one of the top childrens hospitals in the US and I made appointments with all types of specialist. The rheumatologist in Boston looked at all of Jordans previous blood work and diagnosed her within minutes. We have now been on Kineret since November 20 and she is back to her old self. The injections hurt for the first few weeks but now she looks forward to them , she knows it is what is keeping her feeling well. There are still no signs of Arthur and lets keep our fingers crossed that he stays away. Her blood work has returned to normal. She still has to get her blood taken bi weekly because of the MAS, but besides that shen has returned to her normal self.I suggest that if you cant get a diagnosis from you doctor go to another, do not accept I dont know as an answer, the longer you wait the more damage could be done and the longer your child will suffer.I drive Jordan 8 hours to her appointments but it is worth it, I would drive for days if I have to.Good Luck and be very persistent. a and Jordan (9,systemic) linuxgal77 <stanrock@...> wrote: My son is almost 8 years old. Guest guest
Unfortunately yes it does sound like JRA. Motrin can help. Also ice packs to swollen joints and warmth when stiff in the morning. Let us know what the doctor says. Sorry to have you join us because it means another child with arthritis but welcome. Ask away. e, mom to joe 20 poly + lupus linuxgal77 <stanrock@...> wrote: My son has developed swollen middle finger joints. It started like 5 months ago. He had a socker accident on his hand.
