Guest guest
Hi e - That is about what our bill runs for Caroline also. It usually is between 8K-10K per treatment. We are fortunate and our insurance covers 100% of everything. I hope that you get that lucky too! Guest guest
HI e- Ouch! It's been two years since Caitlin did Remicade and at the time, it varied between 6k and 8k per treatment. We have a PPO so we paid 20% of whatever the insurance negotiated rate was. It seems like it ended up being about $700 a treatment... and that year, we did reach the patient max out of pocket cost for our plan, which is $3K. I did find that no two bills were alike.... so if you are going to have to pay a portion, keep them for comparison. I found that they sometimes had billed for meds that were never given - such as a second dose of Benadryl or Solumedrol. And I loved that they always billed $10.75 for the lunch... which the insurance deemed as unncessary treatment - so we got the bill for those lovely, salted green beans and rice pudding. Also, my hospital was always willing to set up a no interest payment plan for my potion of the bill. They also usually offered me a discount if I could pay the whole thing at once... they cut as much as 50% off of my bill. Crazy.... but they will do so much to get some payment at all sometimes. I hope the Remicade works for Joe. Is she still playing (violin, isn't it?) I think of her often, in formal black dress on stage somewhere. As for the weather.... yikes! Flooding? And I was just complaining because it was 93 here yesterday and will be the same today! Talk about extremes Best hopes to you- Colleen (mom to Caitlin, 8, systemic) bound for london <boundforlondon@...> wrote: Okay, if you don't mind sharing just curious how much your hospital is charging for Remicade infusion. We have not heard from our insurance yet about how much they are picking up. And to think I complained about Enbrel. So if you don't mind I'm curious what others are being charged or if this is standard. It is so expensive. Yikes! Guest guest
-kristine, Yup, sounds about right... nicks is 6-7k every 4 weeks. Thank goodness for insurance, ours is covered after Nick pays his part of our yearly deductable ($500) at 100%. Needless to say, Nicks deductable is usually met sometime in Jan. I hope Jo is starting to feel better from the infusions. hugs Helen and (9,systemic) -- In , bound for london <boundforlondon@...> wrote: > > Okay, if you don't mind sharing just curious how much your hospital is charging for Remicade infusion. Guest guest
I think that the bills listed so far are the highest I have heard of... our Remicade visits run between 5K and 7K per visit. They are broken down simalar to what was stated in other posts. For us we pay 20% until our 3K out of pocket and our deductible is completed (which doesn't take long). I am shocked at the cost. They show the drug alone costing anywhere from 2,500 to 3,000!!! This all before we changed dosage, it will be interesting to see our next EOB Are you doing the infusions at a Children's Hospital? Often a place like that will allow you to apply for financial aid and usually they will grant it when talking about these type of treatments. I hope that will help... I know my jaw hit the ground the first time I saw the bill! Theresa
Guest guest
-I think the bills might also depend on what dosage is being given. Remicade is mixed in 100mg increments. I should take a closer look at our next EOB and see the breakdown. Ours are covered 100% so i just tend to look at the total amount on the front and file it. hugs Helen and (9,systemic) -- In , " tj2girls2 " <tj2girls@...> wrote: > > I think that the bills listed so far are the highest I have heard > of... our Remicade visits run between 5K and 7K per visit. Guest guest
Alia, Oh my, I wish. We have a huge deductible and they don't seem to pay much. It is not great insurance but better than none I guess. We will definetly hit the deductible. But if they consider the costs too much we get stuck with all the over that they don't pay. It is very aggravating. My kitchen cupboards are literally falling apart. The drawers fall out on their own with no one around now, but I spend all our money on doctor bills. Ugh! Hopefully I get a statement from them soon. She has had two treatments now so there is a large amount of unpaid bills out there. Glad to hear Caroline is doing so well. I pray that she continues to do well. e, mom to joe 19 poly + lupus aliaalan@... wrote: Hi e - That is about what our bill runs for Caroline also. It usually is between 8K-10K per treatment. Guest guest
The part I posted was the whole bill that they sent, no further breakdown. I haven't received the second bill yet. Our insurance stinks. We have a $1200 deductible before they pick up. This does not include our medications. All the money I have paid for her Enbrel and other meds does not apply towards the deductible. ARGH! And I have paid out a lot of money on medications this year. And my son's neurologist bill that is outrageous does not count because it is " out of network " . Yeah, great! I can't remember how much we have to pay before we meet the maximum for the year. And their web site is down much more than it is up. So frustrating. Yes, joe still plays the viola but not as much as she would like. She is in too much pain many times and her classwork takes too much of her time these days. She played in the university orchestra last year and enjoyed it, but this year she has no time. She is hoping that maybe next quarter she will be able to. But nothing will ever top her experience at Carnegie Hall for her. I am so glad that we were able to get her medications under control and her spine healed enough for her to go. That was a horrible time for all of us. Thanks for asking about her. Flooding, yes. Major! I am glad we do not live in a flood zone. Many schools are closed, roads, houses and bridges are being washed away. Scary stuff! And right now a city is hoping to not get washed away. Guest guest
Beth, Yeah, outrageous costs! I am hoping that the insurance is kind too! As for the rain, the whole west side of Washington would rather see that. Houses are floating down the rivers, bridges and roads being washed out. A good side city is hoping and praying that the sand bags hold so that the city doesn't all go under water. The main bridge is questionable. Schools and homes under water. It is very scary. I am glad that I do not live on a flood plain. My brother lives across the street from an area that is way under water and they are hoping that there house isn't flooded next. Scary stuff! e Beth Yohnk <yohnkmom@...> wrote: e: I know nothing about this, but wow!!!! I had no idea something like would cost so much. I sure hope your insurance picks it up. Guest guest
e, Try the Partnership for Prescription Assistance. I contacted them when my daughter was prescribed Humira and our insurance co. flat out refused to pay anything for it. Both my husband and I work full-time and we have health insurance. We qualified to get the medication for free, but when they found out that my daughter was a minor, they wouldn't give it to us, b/c humira is not fda approved for children. I know Remicade was a medication listed on there. Google partnership for prescription assistance. Good luck. Guest guest
e, I know can not go on an IV invusion. The drug itself costs the same as Enbrel.I know I can have it shiped to me or the Dr. The real money goes to hospital facility charges, room, nurses, meds to counteract reactions, etc. I know of a Dr and his wife that run a Podiatry office and their son has been on Reemicade for a several yrs and they are very thankful that it ONLY costs them $1000 a month. Since Joe is a legal adult with limited personal income she may be eligable for help. What you are going through terrifies me.
