Guest guest
You're one of the few correspondents who have talked about Botox treatment. Could you give me some more information? What did you need to do to prepare for the procedure? How was is performed? What was the recovery like? How soon before you saw results? How long did results last? Why did you decide to pursue this treatment versus another method? What kind of input did your doctor give you to help you make your decision? Any info you can share would be great! Thanks! Guest guest
PS - I know how you feel about people's reactions. All my friends were sure that it was " just stress " in my case. Which is a polite way of saying " it's all in your head " . I hated that! Carol To Janet > Dear Janet, > > I hope everything does stay ok for you as we are all different when > it comes to this. Guest guest
I know exactly how you are feeling. People are always trying to give their opinions of what they thing the " real " problem is. And every where I go, people are asking if I've had my surgery yet, am I better yet, they seem to think as soon as I have the surgery I will be " cured " I've tried to explain, it's a disease, the surgery is not a cure but something to help me. It's as if they just don't hear. I'm avoiding going out at all, even grocery shopping. I send my kids whenever I can. I've spent many meals standing up. The worst is when it gets so bad that even simple things get stuck, and the pain of trying to wash it through when it just does not want to go, and you can't vomit it up, it's a real panicky feeling. I'm really enjoying the relative ease I have right now, but already things are getting stickier than 2 weeks ago, so I know I'm in line for the surgery. Keep your chin up, and remember you are not alone, you can always vent here ) Janet
Guest guest
Janet, I know what you mean, " I've spent many meals standing up " . I am able to go to a restaurant now and get through a meal without making a dive for the restroom. For many years I wouldn't go near a restaurant. Hope things improve for you. Are you having dilitations on a regular basis? The Dr's. said my case was one of the most severe they had seen, thats why I finally agreed to the drastic surgery I had, removal of the esphopagus. Guest guest
Hi Janet & friends Yes, it is very frustrating when people think this condition is due to stress, I thought it myself for a while. If you decide to go the surgery route it could be almost a 'cure' compared with how it is for you at the moment. I realise that different contributors to this group have different experiences following the myotomy but for me it has been a transformation. No more standing up to eat, I can eat in company and even go out, I can even eat bread! My only relatively minor problem is that if my digestive system is upset (I also have IBS) then I have rather loud, smelly, uncontrollable burps! Nothing to stop them coming up I guess! Take care Janet Jane
Guest guest
Well the first 3 dilations were done by a local gp and were completely inefective, they just didn't know what they were dealing with. The next was with a gastrointerologist (sp?) and he did not do a balloon type so it did not really work. The last one done about 3 weeks ago, was done by a surgeon who is a specialist in treating this problem, and has been much more effective. I have still lost another 2 pounds since then though. Because of having about 30 extra pounds to lose most of my life, (according to fashion) I had a former coworker make a very insensitive remark to me yesterday when I thought I was brave enough to venture out shopping. I thought, I wonder if I had cancer if she still would have said the same thing? I really and truly do not want to leave the house anymore now. I see the dr. on friday to talk about surgery, I hope it will not be too far away in the future. By the way I have lost 25 pounds now in the last 6 months or so. - -- In achalasia@y..., Fitzgerald <edfitz65@y...> wrote: > Janet, > I know what you mean, " I've spent many meals standing > up " . Guest guest
Good morning, Janet. Thank you for your welcome. I read your email to and she said she will pray for . When you mentioned that 's hands are showing noticeable effects of the arthritis I'm assuming you mean that his joints in his hands are becoming somewhat deformed. This made me wonder why your doctor doesn't have him on one of the biologics like Humira or Enbrel. The purpose of these drugs is to try to " put off " joint damage as long as possible. Have you discussed these with your doctor. I don't know what all the drugs are that your son is on though, so perhaps one of them is something that would take the place of Enbrel or Humira. Anyway, I just thought I would mention it. Lori in NJ
