Guest guest
Hi , Very sad. This happens far too often. Please send our condolences to Rob. Aloha, Georgina Rob's school, and classmates... A Southern Indiana high school is in shock. One student is dead, another student is behind bars, charged with driving drunk. Obviously this is a overwhelming situation to face especially as a teenager. All of the students Fox 41's Liz Medhin spoke with today say the kids involved in the crash were great kids, fun to be around. It's just that one made a tragic mistake. Classmate Kayla tells Fox 41 News, " was pretty much a really easy-going, goofy kind of guy, " 16-year old Gatz's car now sits crumpled in a New Albany garage, and 18-year old Paige Grable's jeep is just out back. " She's a really good friend. She was a good girl, " continues . How the two collided by chance on this narrow Floyd County road, and why is still hard to grasp, especially for their classmates at Our Lady of Providence Junior and Senior High School; a school of just 530 students. Students say Gatz and his passenger 17-year old were working on a photography project together and were headed to Providence to see a school play Saturday night. Gatz performed in CATS last year and loved the arts. They say Paige Grable, a senior, loved soccer and was a star player, but they claim since Friday's tournament loss she was distraught. Classmates say since Grable was a senior, she may have felt repsonsible for the team's loss. Police say Grable had a blood alcohol level of 0.16 at the time of the crash, which is twice the legal limit of someone of age in Indiana. She and survivied, but Gatz died at the scene. Ray Day says, " You know young people are invincible and this becomes a sudden dose of reality, so it's sad on all counts. " At Providence today, there was no blame. " People make mistakes. We have to forgive and forget and I know would forgive her too, " says Chase Neal. Many gathered to make a prayer chain to greet their classmates Monday morning. It'll be a tough day, since their small school is even smaller now. " We really need each other right now and I think we'll eventually get through it, " says Neal. " was just fun to be around. he was just say random things that would make you laugh. " , the passenger in the car , is still in the hospital, but in good condition. Grable remains at the Floyd County Jail and will head to court Monday. Classes are cancelled Wednesday so students can attend Gatz's funeral. A Grieving Center will be in place for students tomorrow. Guest guest
, Let Rob know we are thinking of him. I know how this can affect an entire highschool. My senior year we had a young man with four other kids in his car. He was angry, with a 2.0 blood alcohol count driving about 80 mph. He hit a man & his wife. The wife died as did three of the teens in his car. The forth teen was in cricitical condition for months. The young man driving walked away without a scratch. The memorial service at the school was something I will never forget. If these were friends of Rob's I hope he will deal with this positivly. I know there was so much anger in our school. Guest guest
, please extend our sympathies to Rob. Did he know the kids involved? So, so sad and may every teen in your area and others learn from this... Donna & family
Guest guest
, sending thoughts and hugs your way. This brings back sad memories for me. Sadly, I have lost two cousins too young in vehicle accidents, both times alcohol was involved, neither time was it my cousin who was drunk. I've also seen one of my best friends killed on the road. Hope Rob comes through it ok. It's a big thing for teenagers, to lose a friend or classmate. May the young fella in in question, rest in peace. Peace too, for the families of all three teens. Guest guest
This news just saddens me. We have had a rash of these types of deaths here in the Milwaukee area too. I wish these kids (and adults) would learn how dangerous drinking & driving is. We were talking at work today about the things our kids have to endure compared to what we did. The worst thing we had were the tornado drills where we had to curl up in balls along the basement walls of the school. Now my kids have to practice lock down procedures! The world is becoming a scary place! Tell Rob we are so sorry he has to go through the loss of classmates. That is never easy, but this is a double tragedy.
