Dont give up girl!!!

I am so happy to hear the MTX is finaly starting to work again and will only

get better over the next few weeks.

Sorry to hear that the tummy troubles are continuing. developed severe

Gastritis some time ago from oral MTX and it was quite a challenge to remedy.He

would just double over in pain crying.We tried Zantax for a month,then

Prevacid for a month then we doubled the daily dose of Zantac again and after

about

a month all gone.It took 150mg Zantac 2x a day to heal his tummy,the same his

dad was prescribed for his GERD.Only dad was 1 or 2 pills 2x daily.

Aundrea has had tummy trouble since practaly day 1 so I am sure it will take

longer to fix but again don't give up.

Just get that beauty fealing better...

We don't have the option to give up do we! :-) The insurance company

called today. They require that Aundrea fail two medications first

before going on protonix. so she has failed prilosec and now they

are going to put her on Zantac for a month. If she fails that they

will then put her back on Protonix.

Drea is home sick today with a severe headache, dizziness and

stomach pain. She came home and took a couple tylenol this morning

and then slept for 3 hours. Still not feeling great..the rheumy

doesn't believe its related to the protonix. Hmmmmm! kind of

strange though, because headaches have been the one thing that Drea

rarely gets.

I will see what the dose of Zantac is when I pick up her script and

see if if compares to how much you ended up having to give .

I use the OTC zantac for Jay. He is 11, 5 " 1 and weighs 100 lbs. The ped told

me can use the 75mg up to twice a day if needed. It works great for him and he

loves to know he can have that extra dose on bad days.

- Poor Drea. I am sorry she has so many stomach issues! I guess the

JRA isn't enough for our kids! Okay - I am kidding, but really when does it

stop. That is unfortunate about your insurance. I hate all that red tape!!

Hopefully the Zantac will work...

Here's hoping that Autumn time is nicer to Aundrea's joints. (Funny

how we call it different things, and een have the seasons start at

different times, I believe)

Anyway, so nice to hear that the Mtx is kicking in for Drea, and

hopefully she won't miss too much more school.

Excuse my ignorance, but what is GERD? Are these antibiotic drugs

she's been prescribed?

I wonder what the difference is between over the counter Zantac and

prescription Zantac? Aundrea is on 150 mg each night. So tonight

will be her first dose.

She still had a headache this morning and tummy ache but it was less

severe so she went to school and hopefully she can stay the whole

day.

Personally, I think the protonix caused the headache, gas pain and

frequent stools. I Prefer to think it was a fluke but given

Aundrea's track record, she typically is a shining example for the

rare and unusal side effects from nearly any med she has tried.

Maybe the Zantac will do the trick.

Hi Jo,

Gerd is short for Gastroesophageal reflux disease. I wasn't

familiar with either until Aundrea began having all these problems

with tummy aches after she eats, and the feeling of a knot in her

throat and chronic cough. For Aundrea it seems to have been caused

by putting her on Aleve (high doses). We took her off of it within

one week but the damage was already done. From my limited

understanding something happened to the lining of her stomach and

they are trying to fix that by putting her on these medications that

inhibit or block acid production.

Some people can take NSAIDS forever and not have troubles, for

Aundrea it started within one week of treatment with Aleve and its

been two months now of trying to get her her stomach healed.

How are things down under? Hope all is well.

I am cautiously optimistic. I have seen an increase in her energy level. I'm

not sure if her pain is better or if she's ignoring and not letting it keep her

down (she still is stiff in the a.m & evening and we've been giving her Tylenol

1-3 times per day along with the Mobic). I also wonder if perhaps the new dose

of the Mobic is starting to kick in?. I am keeping my fingers crossed! I

actually have a call into the rheumy because she needs refills and I wanted to

ask them if there is still room to play around with her dosing. It would be

nice if this works for her as it is not too expensive.

Hope Drea feels better soon. Let me know how the Zantac works.

Hi ,

The difference is the strength. Zantac is Ranitidine. n came

home from the hospital on prescription ranitidine. She took 150mg

twice a day. I guess with prescription you can get it stronger, and

you might have insurance coverage. Zantac can get expensive to buy.

n was given it because she was on prednisone. (though that was

the first I had heard of prednisone being so hard on the stomach)

The latest with n is that the CT of her lungs looks pretty

good. The doctors were worried about fibrosis, which sent me to the

ceiling with worry for the past several weeks. She does not have

fibrosis or any visible inflammation in her lungs. She does have

some tiny nodular densities, but no one seems to be too alarmed about

that. Now the thinking is that she has some type of chest wall

weakness causing her not to be able to inhale or exhale the normal

amount. I really don't think they know what is going on with her.

She was taken off all medication while we waited for the CT results.

This is her 4th week off of mtx, and she is going downhill with

arthritis. We have been given the go ahead to start her up tonight.

She doesn't seem to be getting worse in her breathing, but I can't

say that I have seen any improvement either. She can't run or jog

anymore, for she doesn't have the wind for it. When she walks fast

or uphill, she notices that her lungs aren't what they used to be.

So it is hurry up and wait for some more tests. The next test is a

breathing test while on a treadmill. Take care, (n, 17,

: I'm glad the test came back ok. Hannah's allergist is the one who told

me that pred can cause severe stomach/heartburn issues. He said usually it

should go away on its own. Of course with Hannah it did not..she never does

anything typically when it comes to her health!
