Guest guest
: Just remember, prednisone can be very hard on the stomach as well. I would agree with e, dry cough could be indicative of acid reflux. Also, the constant sore throat and swollen nodes make me think of mono. You might want to have her checked for that... I think I would definately get an appointment for a gi specialist as well. Bless her heart, she is having such a rough time! Keep us posted. and Rob 17 Spondy Hmmm, don't know about all the symptoms but the dry cough and chest tightness etc are sounding like severe GERD. CAll a gastroenterologist. Prilosec is not a strong med. There are better ones out there. I would calla your rheumy too. Sounds like you need to add something else. Me, I would go for the pred burst to get her feeling better and taper to get her over the flare. Damage is done rather quickly and pred as a taper is qutie safe. And if it lets her do what she wants to me it is worth it. My daughter feels the same way. But the other symptoms sound like she needs some other tummy meds and possibly some testing. Hope she gets feeling better soon. e, mom to joe 19 poly + lupus (or rhupusper her rheumy) Herth Schulz Precious Helpers Horse Farm www.precioushelpers.org A Cost-Free Christian Riding Therapy Program
Guest guest
: I have to agree with both & e. As I've mentioned before prilosec did nothing for Hannah. It was not until she was put on Nexium that she found relief. Keep a food diary and see if you notice it getting worse, then look and see what she ate that day. You may be surprised by what you find. I would call the rheumy too..this flare seems to really be going on a long time. We will keep Drea in our thoughts & prayers. snooksmama@... wrote: : Just remember, prednisone can be very hard on the stomach as well. Guest guest
, n gets a sore throat with her systemic JRA. We call it her arthritis sore throat. It tells us that the disease is more active. n had swollen lymph nodes at onset, and the other time was with mono. You might travel down that road and rule mono out. I know this is a difficult time for you. I know the knot in your stomach with the arthritis returning. Take care, (n, 17, systemic) On Aug 28, 2006, at 6:07 AM, snooksmama@... wrote: > : > Just remember, prednisone can be very hard on the stomach as well. Guest guest
beth, Drea did go to pizza hut yesterday with my husband. She ate a couple breadsticks with tomatoe sauce. She had severe GI pain after that. I had forgot to tell him about your post that mentioned some foods to avoid. We also noticed the other day when she had a cheeseburger with ketchup that she had lots of pain afterwards. Seems like she can have problems by just eating about anything but it was definately worse in severity with the tomatoe based products. Guest guest
, Thats funny. Drea also calls her sore throat the " arthritis sore throat " I think that she can feel the pain more in the neck region of her throat versus in the tonsil area. I was pretty sure that was the problem but decided it would be good to rule out strep and be on the safe side. I hadn't thought about mono, but my gut tells me that its both an arthritis flare as well as continued GI problems. We were going to wait til Friday to get labs done but maybe I will see about doing that today. Thanks, sonia (aundrea 11 systemic jra) > > > : > > Just remember, prednisone can be very hard on the stomach as well. Guest guest
Thanks , We aren't ready to go back to pred..That will always be a very last choice for us given how terrible the side effects were for Aundrea. I think e was probably right with looking further into severe GERD. Also, after thinking about Beth's post I do see more of a pattern with her complaints...All the outings to friends house have been with pizza or fries, hamburgers with ketchup..She always has called soon after eating asking me to come get her due to feeling a knot in her throat. Same thing at school..more likely to call after lunch with GI issues. We will see what the doc has to say this afternoon. I think if we could just get her over the gi issues we could kind of limp our way thru the flare until mtx starts working. Guest guest
Hi , A year ago, when had her terrible flare, she had severe stomach pains. They would happen mostly at night when she had fevers, rashes and pain. She would refuse to eat. She lost 6 pounds in a month. That was the first time she had to take pred. After a three week round of pred the stomach pains stopped. Her doctor felt there was swelling in the stomach lining (not sure if I am remembering that correctly). A few months ago she started having stomach pains again, only this time she didn't refuse to eat. Actually she would want to eat when her stomach hurt. The doctor felt the Naprosyn was hurting her stomach, so she started Zantac. This has really helped, and she rarely complains any more about her stomach. Interesting that Aundrea has sore throats. lindsay's doc always asks, but she has never had that symptom (yet). I hope Aundrea feels better soon. Daily life can be so difficult in a flare. Take care. Guest guest
, Sorry to jump in here, but just wanted to agree with what's been said about the possibility of reflux. I have had this *silent reflux* since I was a teenager or before. Anything cheesy or tangy/spicy is what triggers mine. Or if I ate fast. I never, ever suspected it had anything to do with reflux till my 4th child was born and had severe reflux (actually a result of other medical complications) and was searching on the internet. I had the dry cough after eating these foods with the feeling that something's in your throat that you just can't clear. That's a classic symptom of silent reflux. I know it might not be just that, but I agree that a GI consult couldn't hurt. There are lots more drugs available these days to help. It might just be a matter of finding the right one for her. Guest guest
Thanks Marsha...I really had know clue was GERD was or reflux etc. I couldn't believe what some of the symptoms were. I would have never associated them with it. We will give this prilosec one more week along with the antibiotics and if shes not better then the ped is more than willing to refer her out to a GI doc. Now that you are under treatment for the " silent reflux " do you still have problems? Guest guest
Hi - Sorry I have been so absent, but I wanted to know how Aundrea is doing today? Evan has reflux and we are on prilosec and zantac for him daily to help. Give the meds another week or so... Guest guest
Hi Alia, Aundrea had a fairly good day yesterday. Made it thru a whole day of school. Today she called me by 9:30 to go and pick her up. She said she was dizzy and tired, short of breath and that all of her joints started hurting. She has one more day of the antibiotic that she is on for bronchitis. Next tuesday will be the end of week 2 on Prilosec. We have worked at changing her diet and eliminating some problem foods. She gets labs done tomorrow and we see the rheumy next Friday. Gosh, I didn't even know that babies could have such problems with reflux. Do they think that he will outgrow it. Do you have to watch what he eats or give him a special formula? How is Miss Caroline doing these days? Has she recouperated from the eye surgery and did it help her? Guest guest
, Not the same story as Drea but developed SEVERE Gastritis after the medicated remission and tried MTX pills. His stomache was tore up and he would just hit the ground, double over in pain and cry. We tried Zanrtac for a month then Prevacid for a month.I finaly did the nasty and doubled the dose of Zantac 2x a day and voila! I never asked permission but told his rheumy and all was ok. I hope you find something that works for Drea soon.Tummy issues are nasty.Your either in pain, sick or both. Guest guest
, No , no longer takes tummy meds.It was an agressive 3 months to heal things, that thankfuly worked. I'm so lost with e-mails and whats going on with my extended family. Not very likely but keep an eye on that pretty girl of yours. There is a thing called MTX lung and I think its starts as dry cough. Most likely it's just allergies to all that foreighn cacti and whatever may grow there. I have had terrible allergies this summer and what seems dry isn't .You just have to work at coughing it up.A continuous sinus drip that for the most part you don't know about. WalMart brand Claritan, less then $8 for 30 days.Back when it was a RX it cost me $107 per kid under our $200 RX deductable. I hope that gorgeous girl of yours feels better soon. Guest guest
Hey Becki, Its always nice to hear from you. How has the job been going? Are you still giving the double dose of Zantac? I think Aundrea may be doing a bit better. We have cut out certain foods and that seems to help. She will still grab a tums a few times a day and she has a few days left on the prilosec. Her chronic cough remains very persistent. She sucks on coughdrops mostly just to quiet the cough, not that she has a sorethroat. She takes cough syrup at night. I will give it a few more days and if it doesn't clear up then i will return to the ped to have her listen to her lungs again. At least she had a pretty good day today. Minimal joint pain. :-) Got to run. Time for her mtx injection. Take care and thanks for the medication info. sonia (aundrea 11 systemic jra) > > , > Not the same story as Drea but developed SEVERE Gastritis after the > medicated remission and tried MTX pills. > His stomache was tore up and he would just hit the ground, double over in pain > and cry. > We tried Zanrtac for a month then Prevacid for a month.I finaly did the nasty > and doubled the dose of Zantac 2x a day and voila!
