Guest guest
Norm, I sure hope your bone has fused well and all is needed is to take out the hardware! Good luck and I'll pray for you. Hang in there with the pain and get into warm water if your can. Also, ice packs seemed to ease my pain as well. Hope the disability works out okay too. Laurie letter from doctor Hi Laurie thats neat that they let you keep the metal if you wantit. It sounds like a piece of cake to have it taken out. I got a letter today from my doctor he says I need to have a cat scan to seehow stable the fusion is if its stable he will take the hardware outand if its not that he would have to redo the fusion with biggerscrewsso I didn't like the sound of that. but whatever it takes to getrid of this pain I will do it. He also wrote a letter to the disability people saying he has permantely disabled me because of this so hopefully it will help me get disability.Norm

Guest guest
mine is getting close. i have a ss advocate now so it has helped. before i was denied because i held a job more than 5yrs and graduated h.s. i was denied 2 x for this, so then i got the disability advocate. i had to get info from my job that i had for 29yrs. it was to see what i made in 2003(hrs,sick leave, vaction). dr. said i will never work but i will still try to get better so i can at least get a part time job, the four walls get to me after a while. i am on public assistance now, and cant wait to get disability then my kids can move out and i can afford to live on my own. LOL. so now i wait on info from old job so the advocate can get it turned in to see if i can get disability. my doc doesnt want to do surgery now. the pain gets bad. pain dr. says i have a lot of scar tissue. i am curios if he will take out screws and rods out and it stops the pain. cant walk much with out increased pain. well better go. mary __________________________________ Messenger Show us what our next emoticon should look like. Guest guest
hello I have been trying since feb of 2003 to get disability I heard that it is getting tougher for them to approve disability. As long as the new bone growth has hardend they can take the screws and rods out. Good luck getting your disability I hope you don't have to wait as long as I've been fighting. Guest guest
, From what I understand, if the rods and screws are not creating a problem for you, then they stay in you for life (that is true in about 70% of the cases). Only when your bone heals so well and compactly do the screws stick out and push into your muscle creating pain is when the doctor will take them out. Good luck with the disability. Sorry to hear that you are still in lots of pain. Guest guest
The doctor (and you for that matter) can easily see from an x-ray if the screws are protruding through the bone and need to be taken out. > > From: Perkins <skylady74@...> > Date: 2005/04/08 Fri PM 05:41:46 GMT > neck pain > Subject: Re: letter from doctor > > mine is getting close. i have a ss advocate now so it has helped. before i was denied because i held a job more than 5yrs and graduated h.s. i was denied 2 x for this, so then i got the disability advocate. i had to get info from my job that i had for 29yrs. it was to see what i made in 2003(hrs,sick leave, vaction). dr. said i will never work but i will still try to get better so i can at least get a part time job, the four walls get to me after a while. i am on public assistance now, and cant wait to get disability then my kids can move out and i can afford to live on my own. Guest guest
I got disability on my first try, but I had a very smart psychiatrist , who also had his law degree, who helped immensely. He said that it was much easier to get disablity with a mental problem than with a physical problem. So, I got mine on depression initially, but since that time I have had 11 surgeries, not all spinal, but most orthopedic, and I am due to have another cervical spinal fusion June 15. I hope that this will help some of you trying to get SSDI. Guest guest
, The thing that I question is why he doesn't start her on the mtx while she is on the prednisone and after the mtx kicks in, then begin to taper the prednisone...I remember back when Aundrea's doctor put her on pred, but made no other changes to her medications...everyone on this list said pred is just a bandaid you need to look at a dmard of some sort while using the pred to help with the pain control, etc ...The first go around we tapered the pred and you guessed it, all heck broke loose after she was down to about 5mg. the doctor said lets up the pred again but had made no changes as far as a dmard...This time I called back and said that I thought it was time to start mtx. The dr readily agreed, almost as if she had been waiting for me to suggest it and to be willing to make this next step...The mtx.worked wonderfully and we were able to successfully taper off the prednisone on the second go around. I would suggest that you give your rheumy a call and say that you received his progress report and that you would like to speak with him to review a couple of items....Take it from there.
