didn't do good on Ibu which we found out she is allergic to. A

Adult can take up to 800mgs at 1 time. I have seen it taken 2 at a time also.

What I would do is cut the pill in half

and give 1 and a half of the Tylenol. The Ibu depending on the strength now

if 1 pill is 500mgs and that is what she takes then cut a pill in half and

give only 1 and a half. If she has had ANY problems with Ibu then do not give

it

to her.

started with one joint right after another. Tylenol stopped

working. On most Tylenol bottles it says if your 12 years or older you take a

adult dose. Give that then half of a pill. Just to see if it works. When

had such pain I halfed a Adult muscle relaxant and it helped her. She was 12

also.

Your going to think I am CRAZY but if it helps go with it. Since she has

many joints involved now I would try home remedies. 1 is take a White Sock

put corn meal in it about half the sockful tie a knot in it and warm it in a

frying skillet flipping it back and forth once it is all warm lay this one a

joint. Remember the ohhhhhhhhhh where is the other sock at and the dryer eats

it up. This is a good way to use it.

Another thing is get Vaseline or A and D ointment put about a table

spoonful on something.

Get BC powder or Stanback or Goodys. Mix about 2 of these powders in the

ointment real good. Then spread it on the affected joint. If you need to get a

old sheet and make a wrap out of it. cover it up. At least this method does not

smell like Ben Gay lolol.

Rice in a bowl and heat it in the Microwave and let her put her hands in

it. likes to do this one when her hands hurt. WATER Balloons lololol.

Warm water in the balloons and let her play with them. Heck throw them or

just squeazing them helps. With the hands will wash dishes to just keep

her hands moving and this helps due to the warm water and moving the fingers

and wrists.

When was adding joints popping up. I went and bought soft things

for her just to prop up on. Her tail bone was involved also so sitting at

times was hard to do. She actually looked like a doll on pillows lolol. Putting

a towel in a microwave and heating that up helps to.

As for as the pills go half a pill if that doesn't help in 30 minutes

then add the other half. Just be careful with adding to help her. Let me know

if

anything helps.

I wouldn't go much above the dosage on the package without consulting one of

her docs. A lot of our kids take much higher doses than what is written on

the box, but only under the doc's supervision. Also, your doc has written

for a total of 4000mg Tylenol, so I feel very comfortable saying that he'd

NOT want Aundrea on that much ibuprofen. took pretty high doses of

ibuprofen but never that high!

I'm sorry to hear things are worsening.

Subject: question on starting NSAIDS

Aundrea is continuing to have more joint problems and its now

affecting new joints...jaw, shoulder, fingers toes as well as her

ankles and knees.

She started taking ibuprofen a few days ago and today she asked

about trying it thru-out the day...We also have those disposable

heat packs but at this point there are to many joints affected for

this to offer much help.

I pulled out the last script that the dr. gave us and it said she

could have 2 500mg. tylenol up to 4 times a day...I am wondering if

he wrote it for tylenol given her side effects from Naproxyn? She

has more pain than swelling..mild swelling in finger joints. Anyway

I am just giving her ibuprofen but would the dose and the amount

that you can give be the same as what he wrote for tylenol?

I will call him on Monday but just wondered how much I can give her

til then.

Thanks,

(aundrea 10 systemic jra)

That's a lot of Tylenol.... dr just increased giving me Tylenol to help my

flare along with some other meds. She said only take 2, 500mg Tylenol twice

a day but no more than that. I have taken 800mg-1000mg of IB proften twice a

day at the most and that's a lot. But my rheumatologist has allowed it.

Still, she is younger than I was even on that dose in the past for flares.

It was really upsetting to my stomach. I don't think that the dose would be

the same. If you can't contact her doctor, try calling a pharmacist to find

out bout the dose comparison's etc. I know that ourr Rheumatologist often

give higher doses than recommended but still might help to talk to the

pharmacist or someone like that...

Also, heat can aggrivate the inflammation. I know that it prob feels better

because it does to me however, Ice helps decrease inflammation and can numb

the pain some. Maybe worth a try... don't know...

Don't know if this helps.... Hope things improve soon...

:

I tried numerous over the counter meds for Hannah before she was put on

Naproxen (not the cause of the migraines). Anyway, the ped told me that the

dosing on Ibuprofen is higher than that of Tylenol. Do you remember what dose

of Naproxen she was on? That dose would be more comparable than the Tylenol.

I believe you can give this every 6 hrs. I was also told if she was really bad

we could use Tylenol in between at 3 hrs. However, you really have to watch her

stomach and make sure she is eating and getting fluids. This should not hurt

her for the weekend.

If you do not remember the dose of the Naproxen, I can tell you when my son

hurt his leg in March they had him taking 2 adult strength Advil (200mg each) at

a time every 4 hours. He is 11 and at the time weighed about 80 pounds. Hope

this helps. Hannah and I sending happy thoughts. We are sad to hear of her

increased pain, but Hannah can certainly relate. Her knee has been sore &

swollen all day.

Thanks Liz,

I looked thru Aundrea's health journal to see how much aleve she had

been on. This was two years ago and she was probably 20 lbs

lighter, but she was taking 220-400 mg 3-4 x daily, due to side

effects they then switched her to ibuprofen 200-400 mg 4 x

daily..Side effects returned so then we discontinued and went onto

pred and mtx.

I guess I will just go out and buy some tylenol and then follow the

script from out appt a couple weeks ago (500 mg 2 pills up to 4 x

daily) until I can speak with the rheumy on Monday. Why does

everything always happen on the weekend?

I just found the original script for Naproxyn..again this was 3

years ago...Aundrea is now 5' 2 " and weighs 104 lbs. Anyway it was

for 250 mg at morning and night and 1/2pill at noon.

They tried her on Zantac to help with the tummy problems but she

didn't get any relief...thats when they moved onto aleeve, and then

ibuprofen..my understanding is that they are all NSAIDS and her

response was always the same...nausea, dizziness, headache.

As I was reading thru her journal just now I see that the joints

that she is now complaining of (shoulders, hips small of back etc)

were also problems 3 years ago...Its funny how you can forget the

details after awhile.

Aundrea told me today that she wants to wait a week and try tylenol

or ibuprofen and see if it helps...if not she said she is willing to

go back on mtx.

I will call the rheumy on Monday and we will just take it from

there...Wasn't it just two weeks ago when I mentioned how awesome

Aundrea's labs were...Just goes to show that labs don't tell the

whole story, do they!

Well now I am wondering if he wrote the script wrong...Gosh I am so

glad that I talked to you guys before proceeding with these

orders...Now that I read it you are absoluetly right that would

equal 4000 mg a day!

Since I don't know if the script is right and I have experience with

trying the ibuprofen in the past I guess I will just stick with

that. My health journal notes state that I can give her 400 mg 4 x

daily and that was when she was smaller...so that seems to be my

safest route until I can follow up with the doc.

thanks for the tip on ice..I will start alternating...Forgot about

doing that...I am a little brain dead..we had seven 11 year old

girls here last night for aundrea's early birthday celebration...I

am wore out!

, I would say that is a good plan. Aundrea is almost a big as I am and

that is the dose I take (I am 5' 3 " and weight 115lbs). Watch her tummy, give

it to her with milk or food and she can also take tums if need be until you can

check with dr. Good luck and we hope she feels better soon!!!

Hi sonia,

Here is a web site for figuring out the maximum dosage based on weight. Scroll

down until you see the portion for JA. I would be reluctant to use the Ibuprofen

if she has had problems in the past with NSAIDS and would stick with the

Tylenol. And then call your rheumy on Monday. Ideally it will just be a

transitory thing and she will be doing better soon (gotta hope). I so agree that

labs don't always mean much in this crazy disease. I did try to do my own

calculations for you but I have been in bed for 2 days with the stomach flu. I

can finally hold my head half way up and read for a few minutes without

dizziness etc so I am hoping I am on the mend.--e

Robbin,

Thanks for the home remedy suggestions..You are pretty creative. We

could probably have a whole file just for tips like the ones you

have shared! :-)

Aundrea is feeling a bit better right now. She has had a total of

600mg of ibuprofen so I could give her one more dose tonight if she

needs it.

I think that Aundrea just developed all the side effects to NSAIDS

due to the length of time she was on them and in the high doses that

she was being treated with..I think we will be ok to get thru the

weekend with them and then I will feel better about talking with the

doc regarding the proper dosage of tylenol.

I will let you know how the remedy's go..thanks for all the ideas!

Blessings,

(aundrea 10 systemic jra)-
