Guest guest
Extended Oligo is when a child is originally diagnosed as oligo (or pauci = less than 4 joints) and then decides to spread to more than 4 joints. This is what happened with my daughter - it was originally in 2 joints, and is now in at least 4, possibly more. Hope that helps, What is extended oligo Jo, I am still trying to learn the lingo of the JRA. What is extended oligo. veri
Guest guest
Hey there Veri, sorry for my delay, I've been crook as a dog! Still barking like one, but at work 'til midnight tonight! (Sheesh) When Bayly first Flared, he had one joint badly affected- his left ankle. And when he was first diagnosed, it was called Pauciarticular, but by the time we saw the Paediatric Rheumatologist for a definitive diagnosis, he had Arthur in his right knee, both wrists and both elbows- too many joints for the " pauci " title...but not technically " Poly " either. Hence the " Extended " type! (Pauci is Latin and Oligo is Greek for 'few'.) We were also told it was JRA at first, but doctors have since started calling it JIA here, in line with the International suggestion a few years back. So there you go, in one fell swoop- Bayly went from Pauci JRA to Extended Oligo JIA! Yep, confuses the hell outta us too sometimes! Hugs, Jo > Jo, > I am still trying to learn the lingo of the JRA.
