Guest guest
Debi, I know exactly what you are going thru an my heart goes out to youYou are probably wondering whom I'am I come here to the jra site I use to be a reg here because I have a 16 yr old son whom is in remission from jra, fibro he was diagnosed when he was around 9 but, actually started having major problems when he 12 an with that, I will ask this (?) have you told your daughter's rheumy about the problems with the school? Alot of times we as parent's to our kids are kinda ify about asking the doctor for help I know I was at first but, I'd gone thru a very very tuff time with my now 22 yr old daughter whom has poly articular herself an she was 13 when all this hit her an she had a awful awful time with the teachers an the principal even an she was always a excellant student but, it had gotten so bad that she too missed 30 days of school or more so finally I had had enough an went an confronted the principal about the situation. An I'm not sorry to say this but, he was very ignorant to the fact that children do get this awful disaese!! (OK I'm venting LOL it still to this day hurts). The doctors your rheumy is out best alli I have learned this especially if you have a great peds rheumy my son had been a pt. of Dr. Brunner she is out of Cinccy. If you explain the situtaion to the rheumy I'm more then sure he or she would be willing to send a letter to the principal. I always found it best to go an talk to the teachers face/face to explain the situation an maybe your daughters condition I mean explain to them how this effects your daughter this disease effects them not only physically , but most importantly (mentally) as well the whole struggle an I say struggle can ruin a childs performance an out look. You may want to consider even this a tutor my son had one for almost 2 yrs simply because he was too sick to attend an this school itsself can help there they have or should have teachers that can do this. Remember tho in order for you daughter to have a tutor it would have to be up to you an your rheumy not the school. An if the school itselfs is sending you threating letters saying such things as you can be held accountable for your child missing so much school then discuss this with your rheumy or even show (doc) the letter. I have gotten one or two of them. I hope this wasn't to lenghthy or too venty an I do hope that I was of some help! I really hope that the school thing all works out to you an you r daughters advantage because you don't need the stress! So far I have just done one on ones with a few teachers and principle. I need to write up a letter that really explains our situation. leigh is in 7th grade and has missed 30 days so far. I don't see it letting up soon. The school she attends doesn't require the IEP. In my letter how much information do I give? JUST any help would be appreciated. I don't need her to be dealing with poor grades as well as the pain and procedures she has to go through. Today we go for a knee injection. In the past 2 weeks she had 2 IV steroids. Thank you so much! Debi (leigh almost 13 poly)
