Guest guest
, My heart breaks for you with having to deal with a school district that prosecutes you for your childs illness. And on top of that and ex-husband that has no clue about the JRA and would be willing to try to take your kids from you and then drop his med's. Unfortunatly, when we know we are doing what is right and doing the best we can, we think that we may not need a lawyer to represent us. As if paying for our kids med's is not expensive enough that you have to pay an attorney to explain that for you. In reading all the responses about schools and how our kids and we as parents are treated it is amazing how different they can be. About a month ago, Ama nda Jaye actually got a positive referral from one of her teachers. The reason she got the referral was because she had missed so much school but still was keeping caught up on all her work. She was even called to the office where the assistant principal gave her the Positive Referral Certificate and told her she was doing a great job. Let me tell you, I was quite pleased, and then a few days later they mailed me a copy of that referral. I went to my daughters school just over a week ago and sat down with her principal to discuss how much school she has missed. I knew we had a good school and the teachers have worked hard with to keep her caught up. But I was still amazed at how well they are working with us. As I talked with her principal she told me that she has a very good friend whose daughter was diagnosed a few years back with JRA and so even though she does not understand much about it, she does know that it can be devastating and alter everything about the life of the child and the family at times. does have an IEP and her 504 plan will probably allow for some Home Bound study. My daughter has missed about 30 days since the end of October when she started having problems. If your child does not have a IEP or a 504 plan work hard to get that for them before they get into middle school. Guest guest
Veri, Your right about getting it done before Middle School. Elementary from my experience was easier than 's Middle School. Middle School get's harder on the Tardies and missed day's. I will tell you all. That keeping a copy of every visit to a Dr or PT or even a Test will keep you from getting in trouble for Educational Neglect. I would suggest going to the Middle School and talking with the Counselor and see what's being done now so you can prepare for that to come.
