Guest guest
Thanks so much Stacia. Have question on shots. Where are they given? Thigh, buttocks, arm? Does the fatter tissue the better sound right? -- Lorilee ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ken 47 {PolyRA} 6 {Systemic JRA, Eczema}, Kayla 15 {Healthy Thank God} 18 {Asthma} ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ -------------- Original message -------------- From: " staciar101 " <staciar@...> Lorilee, Don't let the injections intimidate you or let you lose sight of the end all goal of better health for your child (and whole family). Many of us were needlephobic before doing injections, but it does get better, especially when you know it's making your child better. Yes, the beginning of doing them is very difficult, but that difficulty will pass. When my son was diagnosed at 7, we started on oral mtx., then went to injectible in juice, then finally the action injections within a 6 month period. The injections were the only thing that worked. I'm sorry you are feeling so overwhelmed by everything goingon with your family member's health. Ii pray thing get better for you soon. Stacia and Hunter 9 systemic, iritis > > Ok here it is. She's put him on some other drug that I couldn't read her handwriting of and we haven't picked up the script yet. He has to go in for more labs and that's it for now. > had his this morning. She's has dropped the probable from his dx. He truely has SJRA. Ok so she up'd his MTX (injectable) from .6ml orally to .8ml. And tapering his pred from 10 mg (5mg twice a day) back down to 5mg. She told me to shave or cut off small portions one pill until it's down to only the one dose per day. So that all started tonight. > She told me that if the uping of MTX doesn't seem to work then we will have to go to injecting it instead. Not looking forward to that. Have enough troubles with drawing blood. and then if that doesn't seem to work we will have to go to Remicade IV's. She's also setting up some physical therapy. I'm not sure but I think she's setting it up where she's at and that's an hour away. Not sure how that one is going to go over with driving and time frames and school and such. I'd much rather it be set up here in my town so I don't have so much frustrations. He also woke up this morning with 102 fever and rash and a general feeling of yuck. Poor kid. After driving that hour to his appt. he seemed to be alittle better. > A week or so ago we found out that my hubby's father has been dx'd with RA also. So now its a family thing. > So what the heck has happened to my family in the last year. It's gone to hell in a hand basket and all I can do is hold on screaming as it plummets to the hell at break neck speed. I'm so not ready for this....why couldn't this be when I was younger and had more energy....I'm not ready to be everyone's nurse...lol > > > -- > Lorilee > ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ > Ken 47 {PolyRA} > 6 {Systemic JRA, Eczema}, > Kayla 15 {Healthy Thank God} > 18 {Asthma} > ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ > >
Guest guest
Thanks Stacia. 's Rheumy said if the increase of injectable taken orally idn't do the job then we would have to go to injections. Just wanted to prepare myself for anything and everything. You've been very helpful. -- Lorilee ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ken 47 {PolyRA} 6 {Systemic JRA, Eczema}, Kayla 15 {Healthy Thank God} 18 {Asthma} ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ -------------- Original message -------------- From: " staciar101 " <staciar@...> Lorilee, We do shots in the arms and thighs, rotating the site each week. Hunter is very slim, so you do need to make sure you get the fatty part of the upper thigh and the back/side of the arm. I think there are some people here that might do the stomach, but we don't. Guest guest
At JA camp, injections were most often given in the thigh... some children prefered being able to see the area. The stomach never seemed preferable for the kids although many of the YA's did this out of easier access? It gets easier in time for everyone... good fortune Issadora On 3/6/06, staciar101 <staciar@...> wrote: > > Lorilee, > We do shots in the arms and thighs, rotating the site each week. > Hunter is very slim, so you do need to make sure you get the fatty > part of the upper thigh and the back/side of the arm.
