Guest guest
You are far from alone in the search for seizure control! I tried for 20+ years to get control of my partial and grand mal seizures without any luck at all. In fact, no matter which drug or drug combination I was on, my seizures became more frequent and more violent as time went on. I finally gave up on the drug approach and, although my neuro urged me to have the surgery, I didn't want to do that. Instead, I started to take vitamins and supplements - primarily B complex, CoQ10, taurine, magnesium and flaxseed oil - and the results have been astonishing! I have not had a single partial since then. In the beginning, I went seven months without a grand mal - then it was almost two years before the next one - and tomorrow, it will be three solid years since the last one. Giving up on the drugs was the best thing that I ever did! Alot of people here with really good ideas. Keep in mind though that, as highly individualized as epilepsy is, what works for one does not work for all and it really is a search to find what works for oneself. Good luck!! >From: " anasTasia " <pellegrina8@...> >Reply- > >Subject: [ ] " alternative " cure? >Date: Mon, 12 Feb 2007 02:57:23 -0000 > >I am talking with my doctor (naturo/homeopath as well as >acupuncturist) about weaning me off Tegretol while introducing other >remedies. Guest guest
Hi , Just wanted to send you an article about different vit. supplements and diet changes that could help control seizures or even eliminate them. We are trying several of these things w/ my 4 y/o daughter w/ great sucess. We have been able to wean nearly all meds and she is down from hundreds of " head-drops " to 10-20 (if any). She too has compex partial seizures and we have seen great control w/ these also. Good luck! He's already helped me improve my health greatly in other areas (such as allergies and an orthopedic condition) through natural medicine and I trust him. I have complex partial and tonic-clonic seizures, the latter mostly nocturnal or secondary generalized from complex partial. Though I have a driver's license, I don't have a car and so don't depend on being able to drive. I'm at a good place to make a change in my approach to seizure control and would be encouraged by other's success stories. I'd also like to hear from any who have tried other methods and failed. Guest guest
We have had GREAT success in getting my son's sz's under control with the help of a naturopath. Howver, he's still on 3 meds: felbatol, clorazepate and valprioc acid. We recently tried weaning the clorazepate and didn't like the way he was acting after 1 week. I chickened out and added the dosage back in. We've only had sz control for 4 months. He went a year and a half wtih absolutely no control whatsoever. We didn't get immediate control upon starting the homeopathics but after 3 mos of doing them, adding in new ones weekly (you have to start slowly or you'll stir up a bunch of unwatned side effects by detoxing your body too quickly), we were seeing little improvements here and there and then BAM we literally got control overnight. 's dx is complex partials that secondary generalize. He is 5 1/2. 3 1/2 when he was dx'd. Cognitively he is delayed. He received ot and speech therapy at school (public). We will most likely pull him out and put him in a private school that is specifically for children with special needs. The student/teacher ratio is 2:1 and the kids in the program are just thriving, compared to the public school just doing the minimum the law requires. sorry, I've gotten way off topic. Just wanted to let you know that homeopathics worked great for us - but they don't for everyone. You have to be patient and can't expect immediate results. And you have to work iwth a dr who is very knowledgable and experienced. Best of luck, nancy
Guest guest
thanks for sharing. my son has had all kinds of seiuzres. technically his dx is idiopathic seizures/lennox gastau (Sp?) and we are taking clorazepate, felbatol and phenobarb. (trying desperately to get rid of the last two!) he also takes risperdal for behavior-really crazy mood swings from other meds/seizure combo. he's also on keto. diet. we are thinking it's time for something else, but we want to look for a good alt. med. doc. here in St. Louis. Thanks for your post. It's amazing to know so many people who feel like i do-not believeing that my son is destined for disability forever! thanks, jenny [ ] Re: " alternative " cure? Guest guest
, I love reading stories like yours. It gives me so much hope. My daughter had the same dx as your son, but they recently changed it to onset generalized epilepsy. We too have started her on a number of different herbs including inkberry, virginia snake root, slippery elm, brain and nerve coctail, feverfew, research formula and several others. What were some of the herbs your son was on? She also takes a number of different vit. supp. including e, b-complex, and omega. She has been on them for 2 months and we have seen huge improvements and are hoping for the same results as you. A friend of mine has a daughter like mine and she was cured w/ similar herbs by the same doctor. She also said it took 3 months and it was literally overnight. He is an Amish doctor. He is a really good man and truly seems to want to cure her. Unlike the doctors who just play the guessing game and give me horrible a prognosis. The Amish doctor is very confident in his treatment. He also only works on donations (that's a big help). I also wanted to say I understand what you are going through w/ his school. Hailey's teachers don't know what to do w/ her and when she first started last year they tried to send her home early all the time saying she was too " disruptive " . I put a stop to that immediately by calling the board on them. Well that stopped and I think now that they understand her and us a little better (I think they just thought we just let her run a muck and had no control over her (so not the case)) they are more willing to work w/ her. We too have thought about private school, but they are soooo expensive. Maybe in the future. Anyway, hope continues to do well. I just pray we get the same results. Guest guest
Please read about Urine Therapy there's books about it! Look it up on the internet and read about it because it's made my seizures decrease inleast 70% Also look up foods for healing Epilepsy! Those foods are the nutrients people like you and me need in order to heal natually! Like foods with vitamin E and foods with Manganese! Plus a raw food diet! Raw foods have alot more nutrients in them! Also alot of good fats like nuts, avocados, Coconut/coconut oil, flaxseed oil & etc. I wish you the best! -Melinda anasTasia <pellegrina8@...> wrote: I am talking with my doctor (naturo/homeopath as well as acupuncturist) about weaning me off Tegretol while introducing other remedies. Guest guest
It's really good to hear how you are succeeding with seizure control. I was off meds for five years before I got them to stop [1998]. Unfortunately, I went through the surgery before I wised up. I'm glad you didn't go through that. Guest guest
Hi Melinda- Which books do you recommend for foods that heal epilepsy? I tried ut and it healed me of bronquitis, and mononucleosis and other infections. Not epilepsythough. I am thinking about doing prana Any info is appreciated Melinda Pruitt <melindaxl@...> wrote: Please read about Urine Therapy there's books about it!
