Eye flickering seizures. My kids did go through this.

This is what I found to be true with my children. Yeast overgrowth

triggers seizures. This is why my kids did so well on the Atkins

diet for seizures because it lowered their carb count, put them in

ketosis and then by virtue of putting them on the most extreme anti-

candida diet allowed them to kick the yeast. Ear infections and

antibiotics when they were little does nothing to help this situation

as it promotes yeast overgrowth and a disruption of the body's

natural bacteria. This is also why the kids' seizures go downhill

when they get sick regardless of what medication they are on. Yeast

contributes to a weakened immune system and takes advantage of a

weakened immune system when it is down, hence more seizures.

I would also recommend a product Candex and the use of probiotics.

You can do this without going on the diet at first. Go easy on this

stuff. If either of these causes the child to throw up the first few

days and the vomit smells like beer, then you can be pretty sure it

is yeast and you would want to cut back, but not discontinue. (

Plain yogurt is also good, not loaded with tons of sugar. ) Getting

rid of yeast as you know if you are a woman who has ever suffered a

yeast infection is not an easy thing. It comes back and vigilance is

the rule.

When yeast die, you can have a reaction called yeast die-off. It's

pretty awful, 3 days of something that looks like flu with loose

bowels and vomiting, but unfortunately tough to completely avoid.

This is why I believe that most doctors often have children in the

hospital during the first stages of the ketogenic diet. The kids

often get really sick for three days. By the way, don't talk

about " yeast " with your doctor. Most of these people do not see the

correlation between antibiotic overuse and the resultant yeast

issues. A few years ago, they did not even want to accept that they

were causing antibiotic resistant bacteria. Now, they almost have to

accept this, but don't want to hear that they have also caused

fungal/yeast issues in patients as well. I once talked with a doctor

about yeast and my children and brought in all sorts of research

including their history of ring worm infections, thrush, etc. He

took my whole packet of research and dropped it in the garbage in

front of me and told me to get out of his office. But my son is not

having seizures now, so fortunately, I do not need his help.

Atkins4Seizures atgroups is connected with the Hopkins

research on using the Atkins diet for seizures. I would look into

this and then see if you can find a neurologist locally who will look

into the research and help you to administer this plan as an option.

It has some solid research behind it and it worked for my kids

without stunting their growth. The diet is pretty easy. Go with

lots of anti-oxidant vegetables instead of trying to make carb-free

cake, pizza and so forth. Save yourself the grief and the child the

free radicals. My kids learned to live with broccoli and spinach as

their carbs.

I would also go to the Defeat Autism Now website and look up

doctors. See who you can see in your local area. Any of them can

test for heavy metals. Mercury and lead poisoning can cause

neurological issues. Any of the DAN doctors can test for this and

give you some idea if this is the problem and how to proceed.

I am not often on this site now because my kids have mostly gotten

through the seizure thing and I am still battling the autism with

them, but they had autism before they had seizures, so it's a back to

square one thing.

I may write a book on this leg of the journey anyway since we have

overcome some huge obstacles already. I am in the process of writing

about our experiences. Well wishes or ideas for publishers would be

cool. I almost can't condense that experience into a few emails, but

I can point you in a couple directions.

Anyway, give those ideas some thought.

Good Luck to you!

Dana
