Guest guest
Welcome ! Hope you like it here. I took the same attitude about asking people why they DO vaccinate and mostly I got the response " Because it's the law!! " I just respond " no it's not " and they look at me like I grew 5 heads!! Then of course I get the old " well, they can't go to school without them " to which I respond, " Of course they can! " AND, so it goes..... Guest guest
Serenity ... Thanks ... you know, I hate them too! But this one WAS so cool, I just had to use it. HOWEVER, I only put it on the home page so that noone would have to be annoyed by it when they're trying to read. Guest guest
Hello! My name's (28), married to Matt(30), work at home, homeschooling mom to Porcelain(6, LKS) and (3), living in St. sburg, FL. I've found LKS to be incredibly baffling! Porcelain's development had always been early or on time. She knew her letters, colors, shapes, and could count to 20 in English and Japanese by 2! Things started going downhill about the time turned 2 and was talking more. At first our ped. thought it might be that she wanted to " be the baby " or that the Japanese confusing her. So we cut back on it. Didn't really change anything.. Then we mentioned we thought she might have a food allergy because it seemed whenever she drank milk she ended up kinda " spacy " . So she was on digestive enzymes for a while and they did seem to help - I'm actually going to ask our neuro if it's ok if she goes back on them. But then things started regressing again so we took her to a SLP in July to see what she had to say. Which did not go the best because Porcelain is not one of those kids that will perform on demand! LOL! But the SLP said " it's there, I just can't figure out why it's not coming out right. " Right about a month later we were out shopping and she ended up having a seizure. Kinda just stumbled back, sat on the floor, her lip trembled and her eyes fluttered. It maybe lasted 30 seconds. We took her to the ER and they did blood work and a CT. Everything came back normal and they told us that " sometimes kids just have seizures " and if she was conscious and it was under 5 minutes, then it wasn't probably anything to worry about. So we went home and made an appointment for the ped.. Well a couple weeks later she ended up having another, and it seemed like she might have been hyperventilating a little; but still conscious and everything. Rushed her to the ped instead of waiting for the appointment and got a referral to a neuro. We thought we would have a 30 minute EEG appointment... it turned into a 3 day hospital visit. When she was discharged she was status epilepticus. The neuro was showing us on her VEEG that she was pretty much having continuous seizures even though you couldn't tell at all. 2 weeks later at the followup she was diagnosed with LKS. But at least we feel that we have the answers now to what's really going on!! She's been on Depakote(500 mg a day), for the last 2 months and is doing somewhat better. Instead of the continual abscence seizures, they've slowed down, but now she seems to have more atonic seizures?! Her neuro wants to start her on Lamictal next week as well. I want to put her back on her digestive enzymes to see if that will help as well. Her attention span is better and it doesnt seem like she's getting as frustrated when she can't figure out what she's trying to say. The thing with her though is it really seems like the level of what she comprehends at times changes. Like most days when she wants a drink she'll say " I want a cup " , most of her sentences are short.. but one day we were driving down the street and she goes " let's go to target, they have ponies " as in my little ponies. We're taking it day by day though and are hopeful she can get back on track! Sorry this was so long, I really tried to compress it! LOL! I look forward to getting to know everyone! Blessings,
