Dear list,

I have a good friend whose 7 year old daughter was diagnosed with

petite mal seizures at 5 years old. She was originally on depakote but

was experiencing hair loss and weight gain. Her doctor switched her

daughter to zonegran. Within the past year she has experienced weight

loss, depression, and cognitive problems. While in the process of

switching to Lamictal and lowering the dose, she has begun to gain

weight and her depression has somewhat liften. However, while still on

zonegran, her daughter is extremely inconsistant. She is able to solve

a series of math problems correctly one day but then knows none of them

another day. A recent relatively simple science concept was completely

beyond her despite hours of studying and modifications from the

teacher. My friend is worried that these cognitive impairments may not

be from the medication. I was wondering if anyone has seen these types

of problems on zonegran. Your feedback would be very much appreciated.

Thank you,
