Guest guest
Hi I am new to this board.Dont know where to start from.My son is almost 2 years old and started having seizures from 4 month old .He was on phenobarabital for a year and half and he is globally delayed in development .He can crawl and pull to a standing position and stand for a while but can't walk yet. So we discussed with the doctor about phenobarabital and if it would have any developmental delays. So he suggested changing to Trileptal. Does any body have any experiences with Trileptal????? Thanks, Sara
Guest guest
Our daughter had been on Trileptal for a while, it seems the best of all meds she had tried, much less side effects then Tegratol, need blood levels and liver panel checked on regular basis but less then Tegratol. jasmina On 11/20/06 11:24 AM, " sr_hrry " <sr_hrry@...> wrote: > > > > > Hi > > I am new to this board.Dont know where to start from.My son is almost 2 > years old and started having seizures from 4 month old .He was on > phenobarabital for a year and half and he is globally delayed in > development .He can crawl and pull to a standing position and stand for > a while but can't walk yet. Guest guest
What are generalized seizures? My son also has partial/complex seizures. He's had two seizures in a 9 month period and was put on trileptal in July. His level is very low with the medication according to the blood work but the Dr. doesn't want to increase it. By the way, my son is 9 years old and has Autism. Kim
Guest guest
I liked Trileptal for there was less side effects. I just got off in the past two weeks. It can cause low sodium for some people, which it did for myself. I had more problems in the summer from the heat, sweat, drinking fluid because of the sodium problem. It caused me generalized seizures which I only have complex partials. I had to drink gatorade(which I hate) to bring the sodium up again. Or just olives... best of luck lisa epilepsyapproach/ > > Hi > > I am new to this board.Dont know where to start from.My son is almost 2 > years old and started having seizures from 4 month old .He was on > phenobarabital for a year and half and he is globally delayed in > development .He can crawl and pull to a standing position and stand for > a while but can't walk yet. Guest guest
Hi, Tell me more please about Trileptal causing generalized seizures, our daughter has complex partials, and there was increase in generalized(which always turn in status for her) since on Trileptal but I never thought Trileptal could caused it.She entered puberty at the same time, and we were thinking hormones had to do something wit it? Guest guest
Hi Jasmina, We thought hormones too, since I was turning into peri-menapause. I had my doctor give me a script written for six months. So everytime I had a seizure(generalized) I would go and get blood work done at least early the next morning. For when you are low on sodium it can take days before getting back to normal again. That is why I kept gatorade in stock. It was always low sodium that caused it. It only says, for high dose. That was so untrue. I would not get blood work when my meds was lowered and was still having generalized. So I just assummed it was hormone related. I was wrong. I asked my doctor could I still be having low sodium issues if my meds was very low? She said it is possible that I was still having the sodium problem. SO the next time the seizure happened, I got blood work and again it was low. I finally decided I had to get off, for I could not deal with it anymore. My thinking was much more clear with this med, but causing me to have seizures. Remember, trileptal and tegretal are in the same family, both can cause this problem. I was on tegretal for 23 years and never knew that!!!! My generalized seizure is different. It is possible it could be a psuedoseizure. I am well aware of everything that was happening at the time. Even if it is low sodium, the seizure should be the same. I will be going this week to the hospital the get a VEEG done. epilepsyapproach/ > >> > > >> > Hi > >> > > >> > I am new to this board.Dont know where to start from.My son is > > almost 2 > >> > years old and started having seizures from 4 month old .He was on > >> > phenobarabital for a year and half and he is globally delayed in > >> > development .He can crawl and pull to a standing position and stand > > for > >> > a while but can't walk yet. Guest guest
One more thing, I figured out, that everytime I was getting low, I would start to have auras/simple partial seizures all day. Thats when I would use gatorade. Not that it is a good choice. epilepsyapproach/ > > > > Hi > > > > I am new to this board.Dont know where to start from.My son is > almost 2 > > years old and started having seizures from 4 month old .He was on > > phenobarabital for a year and half and he is globally delayed in > > development .He can crawl and pull to a standing position and stand > for > > a while but can't walk yet. Guest guest
The research indicates that Tegretol or Carbatrol, both of which are forms of carbamazepine, can increase seizures in people with Juvenile Myoclonic Epilepsy (JME). Since Trileptal (oxcarbazepine) is chemically similar to Tegratol , the same may be true of it when used with JME. However, in any type of epilepsy, some AEDs may increases seizures in some people. This phenomenon is called " papradoxical seizures " in the medical literature.. Guest guest
Just noticed a typo in my previous e-mail. The term is PARADOXICAL SEIZURES. Sorry.
