Guest guest
I had never heard it called any particular syndrome before but I learned of the problems when I had my second child (breast fed her for six months after being on Dilantin through the pregnancy). She's 25 now and I would have thought that the medical profession would have gotten better about telling women about the problems by now. I was lucky - my daughter was smaller than my first child and she didn't walk or talk until she was almost 2 1/2. I took her to Columbia in NYC when she was 2 to try to find out what was going on and they had no idea. She was also a very cranky baby and would barely let me touch her - no one else could touch her at all without her screaming and that included her father. Before I got pregnant with her, I had talked to my neuro and my ob/gyn about any complications from Dilantin and both assured me that there were none. I even wrote to the drug company (Parke- in 1980) and asked them. They said that there were none. The first time I learned that my daughter's delays and Dilantin were connected was when she was 2 and Parke- lost a $6 mil lawsuit to a couple whose child had been born without eyeballs from Dilantin. I had my tubes tied two weeks later. Anyway, now you would have no idea that anything had been wrong or delayed about my daughter. The only permanent effect seems to be her oddly shaped toes. Why aren't more women like us warned about the problems that Dilantin can cause a developing fetus? It seems like we both tried to make educated decisions and the medical esablishment was either too ignorant or lazy to find out and to let us know. >From: " " <baumeister1976@...> >Reply- > >Subject: [ ] Fetal Dilantin Syndrome >Date: Fri, 22 Sep 2006 15:42:11 -0000 > >Hi everyone!!!
