Yes, that's when I normally have mine! Is during my time of the month! Other

then that I " m good and strong! I stick to a 80% - 100% raw diet (which is raw

fruits, raw vegetables, raw nuts & seeds and little bit of cooked vegetables).

-When I get up I take 2- St. s wort,

-then do my urine therapy,

-then I exercise,

-daily activities (work),

-then before bed I take 1 valerian root (this really relaxes the mind which

really makes my mind feel at ease with my epilepsy)!

-I don't take any meds! This natural stuff I do helps me more then anything

ever has done! Meds only made me worse!

I took my normal 850mg dose of scullcap at 9:00pm and had to take another full

dose at midnight. Then, at 7:00 (when I had the seizure last month) I felt

another 'rush' so I took my 9:00am dose a little early. I haven't had any

seizures so far. I slept really well!

I'm going to take it very easy for the next few days until this situation

settles down. I think something to 'balance' the hormones is in order.

I'm not sure if extra Progesterone (wild yam) is a good idea for me. Since the

seizures hit when it decreases naturally and I would have to stop taking the

wild yam at the same time - it seems like it could actually make the whole

hormonal roller coaster ride worse at that time. Has anyone else had a similar

situation of seisures and monthly exactly the same time every month? I'd love to

hear your experiences.

I'd also love to read a good website about this issue.

Scullcap relaxes states of nervous tension while simultaneously renewing &

reviving the central nervous system. Scullcap has traditionally been used in

combination with Valerian as a mild sedative for anxiety. It has also been

used in patented medicines for " female problems " . It has a specific use in

the treatment of seizure and hysterical states, as well as epilepsy. This

herb may also be used in all exhausted or depressed conditions, and can be

used in the easing of pre-menstrual tension.

Hi Melinda:

Have you tried magnesium and Vitamin B-50 plus B-complex. It has been a life

What type of urine therapy do you do? You can email me directly if you want.

How/when do you use the progesterone. This has been suggested for

my daughter, as well. She hasn't statred menses yet, but she's

getting close. I think the " cycles " start before it officially

arrives. So, I wouldn't know how to target date of cycle -- but I

do know that she's had an intense cycle of seizures the end of each

month (just coming down off it -- I hope -- now). Thanks!--D

Hi Moni and group,

Below is an abstract and some links on seizures related to the

menstrual cycle, catamenial seizures. The number of women with

seizure disorders who experience a change in their seizure patterns

at around the time of this cycle may be common. Sometimes the change

is for the better, sometimes worse. Progesterone has been used

successfully to treat these type seizures. There's a lot of info on

the web about this. I found it difficult to wade through the stuff on

a 'drugs only' approach. The information is out there, just takes

some poking around. Also, check out Lee's writing on

progesterone if you haven't done so already.

[Catamenial seizures--an analysis]

[Article in German]

Bauer J, Hocke A, Elger CE.

Klinik fur Epileptologie, Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms- Universitat

Bonn.

Catamenial seizures are defined as epileptic seizures occurring

during distinct

phases of the menstrual cycle (i.e., periovulatory, premenstrually

and during

menstruation). The cyclic changes of the gonadotropic hormones are

thought to be

the main cause of the seizures. This hypothesis is supported by

results of

animal experiments, which have shown oestrogens to increase neuronal

excitability whereas progesterone lowered it. We investigated 21

women with

epilepsy who reported a catamenial increase in seizure frequency.

Only 24% of

these women actually exhibited a catamenial manifestation in more

than 75% of

seizures. The incidence of catamenial seizures is reported in the

literature to

be between 10% and 72%. Catamenial seizures are treated with

anticonvulsant

drugs. However, when anticonvulsants have failed to suppress seizures,

progesterone or progesterone-derivates have been administered with

success. We

treated 16 patients with a synthetic GnRH-analogue to suppress the

hormonal

release of gonadotropins. Four of the six patients with only

catamenial seizure

manifestations and no other seizures became seizure free. Ten

patients had

catamenial seizures as well as seizures not related to the menstrual

cycle. A

decrease in seizure frequency by more than 50% was achieved in 7 of

these 10

patients.
