Dear Patty,

I have had implants for 12 years saline.l started feeling bad in chronic pain about 6years ago and have been in pain every since. I have had 2 jaw surgeries, 1 for 2 ruptured discs in my cervical spine and I am worse. In October, I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia and my life has gone downhill since. Do you know how long recovery is with the explant and does it make your fibromyalgia much worse? I had one doctor of course tell me that he did not think I should remove them. that my fibro may get worse. I am considering going to Dr. Kolb in Atlanta since that is close for me and get it done. I am really tired of wondering what caused the fibromyalgia, but I feel sure it is the implants. I am so fatigued, forgetful, have trouble walking and joint pain and swelling all over, I have mental deficits, like problems with memory or forgetting what I was just talking about. Do you know somebody like me?

Please help.

Thanks so much.

Hi ,

I'll try to answer your questions, and for the last one, I can tell you that I have met many, many women like you! That is unfortunate, but I am certain that the numbers will not be decreasing anytime soon, as thousands are implanted each year.

As for the fibromyalgia, there is a new study out that confirms that silicone can induce this autoimmune condition. I believe I have posted it in the "Files" section of this group. Contrary to what your doctor is telling you, I believe the opposite--that removing your implants may help your fibromyalgia instead, and that if you have a worsening, it may only be temporary because of the initial stress associated with surgery itself.

Recovery after explant is an individual affair, with each person showing varying lengths and aspects of healing. Physically, my recovery from explant surgery itself took less than 2 weeks. On a symptomatic level, some show immediate improvement of some symptoms, while others experience a more gradual time frame. Many have an initial improvement followed by a worsening of some symptoms, which can cause alarm, but then experience a slow steady improvement. This was the character of my healing. I am happy to report that I am almost fully healed now, but that it has taken me 3 years to get to this point. All symptoms are gone, except for spaciness in my head occasionally.

Recovery must be accompanied by an attitude of hope, cheer, joy in whatever you can find joy, an avoidance of stress, meditation of goodness, and optimism. I never used to put much stock in psychobabble, being a very practical person, but I can tell you through experience that you MUST maintain your optimism and dwell on the positive. Stress, depression and upsetting circumstances hinder healing. I know that for many of us, stress accompanies us daily, and depression is an ever present uninvited guest. I suffered from the oppressive feelings of depression after my initial explantation, but as my health improved, the depression lifted, and has not returned. I do believe it is present because of the chemicals and toxic overload in the body, which cause an imbalance in the function of our hormonal system that includes the adrenals, thyroid, and other vital glands of the endocrine system. My point is that you must make the effort to dwell on good things, regardless of your circumstances. Have faith in the direction of your steps...that you are on the right path of healing by removing the implants.

I hope this has been encouraging.

God bless,

Patty

Patty,

Sorry it has taken so long to write. I went to the beach just to relax for

the last 4 days. Thank you so much for your encouraging words. I talked to

Dr. Kolb in Atlanta yesterday. She called me and talked to me for 10

mts. I am going to be explanted July 23rd. I am really excited because I do

not want to worry about having anything harmful in my body. Even if I have to

get worse to get better. My attitude is good and I have grown closer in my

faith with God. More sensitive to other people in pain....I guess when I got

saline implants 11 years ago (I was 26) and I did not think about the

silicone envelope breaking off slowly over time. I am so glad that you

emailed me. I can deal with the pain of surgery. I had a cervical fusion last

May and 2 TMJ surgeries in the last 2 years, so I am not scared only hopeful.

How long were you in the hospital? Write me when you can, you really help

because I know you understand.

Thanks,

Patty,

Hi, When Dr. Kolb did your surgery, was it done en bloc and did you have

drains? I may have already asked you that question. e was telling me

that she had drains for about 3 days. I have heard that it is good if the

doctor uses them.

Thanks for all your emails, support and encouragement. Hope you have a great

day.

Take care,

If you can't get to a chiropractor, call in a mesage person...although painful at the time, it helps later to get a deep muscle message. Most of the mesage people will come to your house. That's if money is not an issue.

Money is definitely an issue, so the "visiting home masseuse" is out.In fact, I went to the doctor today (a D.O.) and they said my insurance wouldn't cover adjustments, so I turned around and came home. Right now I'm on the ice-back-buttock therapy, and I took 600 mg. of ibuprofen which I hobbled out today and bought. I can't remember if I ever took this stuff before as I very rarely take any medication. It got me a little spaced out but the pain diminished for awhile. Also took 10,000 mg. Vit. C and will take some cayenne tincture and back to the ice. I'm a bit down because I have medical insurance which I have NEVER even used before and the first time I decided to use it they refused to pay for any type of manual treatment.

Has anyone heard of Dr. Batmanghelidj who wrote The Body's Many Cries for Water? Very good book. Really convinced me to guzzle jugs of water every chance I get. I learned about him through Sam Biser . He wrote another book about backpain and dehydration and says that his simple exercises (in the book) plus his water drinking therapy relieve nearly all sciatica pain within a half hour. I checked Ebay and won a copy for $1.99, but haven't gotten it yet. If this ever hits again I'll be armed with more info.

Thanks everybody!!

Hi Gloria,

I've had sciatica on and off for almost 24 years. I think I have an intimate

understanding of it.

First, I'll say this: If you've been in pain for this long and it's not easing

at all, you

need to see someone about it. A chiropractor would be ideal. You may have

something else going on.

There is a therapy, generally given by trained masseurs/masseuse, that could

have

you out of pain in seconds. This is trigger point therapy. It really really

works if it's

muscle or nerve related and not a slipped disc or something like that. The

'dean' of

trigger point therapy is Bonnie Pruden. She developed it alongside M.D.'s. The

M.D.'s took to trigger point injections with chemicals (they can't breathe

without a

needle of some recent goo recommended by a salesman stuck in someone's body).

Bonnie's method has the same results for pain relief without their chemical

crap.

The basis is that there are 'triggers' where muscles and nerves gather than can

start

pain (very simplified). There's more to that, but you should get her book

called

" Pain Erasure " Time to relief is very short, usually a couple of minutes. I

don't

know if you live alone or not. For Sciatica, you need help or something like a

Theracane to get to the area.

As far as herbals, the best I've found thus far for my sciatica, if it gets that

bad, are

valerian root, passion flower and chamomile. Do not try to drive yourself if you

take

those. All three basically calm you and your nerves so they may make you drowsy.

Be careful with the ibuprofen. That stuff does more harm than it does good and I

found it of little use for nerve pain. What may help you is to take some Extra

Virgin

Olive Oil and mix some of the cayenne tincture into it. Use that to rub over

the area

on your back around the sciatic nerve. It will help confuse the signals sent

back to

the brain.

Don't overdo the ice packs. You can actually get frostbite from those guys.

Been

there done that.

Since you are paying for such wonderful 'medical' treatment, I'd call my

insurance

carrier and see if they have any provisions for alternative treatments. Some

do,

some don't. Ask them why you pay so much for such mistreatment! (Insurance

companies do NOT like me.)

I have read Dr. Batman's book called " ABC of Asthma Allergies & Lupus " . It's

really

a good read, if a tad boring in places. I think he's right on a lot of counts.

I started

drinking water exclusively almost 5 years ago. I drink a minimum of a gallon a

day,

that doesn't count what is in foods. I have noticed lessening over that time of

sciatic

pain. When it does happen, the bouts are less painful and don't last long. I

head for

the sea salt and Vitamin C. Although Vitamin C could eradicate your pain, I

don't

think you'd be able to get there orally. But the C will help your body with

stress so

it's good you are taking it. If 10grams didn't give you diarrhea or loose

bowels, then

you need more for some reason.

I could go on and on, but if it were me, I'd be heading to a chiropractor and be

seen.

They aren't that expensive usually (at least in CaliPornia).

Good luck!
