Guest guest
Hi Everyone, Is there such a thing as an NSAID that doesn't cause horrible stomach troubles? My son has taken Naproxen and Sulendac (not sure I spelled that right). Both meds really did a number on his stomach, even if he took something to coat the stomach along with the medication. We are visiting our rheumy this week and I am sure she is going to want to put him back on an NSAID, but I don't know what to try now. Any suggestions would really be appreciated. My son, Dylan, has pauci JRA in his left knee. He's 6 1/2 years old. Has had it since he was 3. Thanks so much, Carolyn Goedike
Guest guest
For my son, Celebrex did the trick. He had horrible stomach problems with other NSAIDs and the dr prescribed this. Even at his worst when he was taking 800 mgs a day of Celebrex, he did not have stomach problems. Given the recent talk about Celebrex, we discussed this with the rheumy and he feels that there is no problem with children taking the drug. So, while only takes it as needed now (thank you, MTX!) he is still able to use Celebrex when he feels the need. Hope this helps, Michele (17, pauci & spondy) Question About NSAIDS Hi Everyone, Is there such a thing as an NSAID that doesn't cause horrible stomach troubles? Guest guest
For my son, he was put on Celebrex which has not caused him any stomach problems unlike any of the others which did. At one point, he was on 800 mgs a day. Some kids on the list take Zantac or other stomach meds of the same sort to help. You could ask the dr what type of stomach med they could recommend. Michele ( 18, spondy) Question About NSAIDs This is probably a very common problem for most, but I thought I'd ask if anyone has suggestions for a child who just can't tolerate NSAIDs on a daily basis. My son, 7 years old, has had JRA since he was 3. We've done the Aristospan injections, which seem to help for 9-12 months. But he is unable to tolerate daily NSAIDs. They really upset his stomach and nothing seems to help. Does anyone have any suggestions? Guest guest
Donna - Caroline is on Zantac (so is Evan actually). She takes it just fine, but she's been taking those meds since she 1 so maybe she's just used to it. The doctor said you can give them a piece of chocolate with it to help kill the taste (i.e. take the Zantac and then immediately bite into a piece of chocolate). I have heard this sometimes works.. Good luck! Alia and Caroline, age 3 (4 next week!!), poly and uveitis ________________________________ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of ajaoky@...
