Guest guest
Becki, I'm so sorry that is struggling with one of the most common afflictions known to man these days --- allergies!!! Hunter takes a zyrtec each day, used to take nasacort, but doesn't seem to need it anymore. I have seen improvement with the allergies ever since he started mtx. He's allergic to many grasses, trees but mostly dustmites. In or out he's hosed, but seriously, improved since mtx. Are you going to a ped allergist? It's got to be hard to figure since he's also going through infections -- sometimes hard to distinguish the sypmtoms, I know. I feel for you and hope you can sort things out soon. I have taken an involuntary hiatus from the list for two weeks and have spent a portion fo the last 3 days just reading everything to see what's going on and having almost time to respond to any. So now that I'm alsmot caught up, can wrtie a little. Think of you guys often, Stacia and Hunter 9 systemic iritis > Hi all, > Just curious what experiances any of you have had with any child with severe > seasonal allergies. can't even go outside for 3 minuites without coughing > so hard he vomits and it's continuous, over and over again. > He seen a ped Sunday who prescribed Amoxicillan and a codeine cough syrup > with Pseudoephedrine and something else, been taking Claratin. It's not doing squat > and instead of just before bed time it's 3 times a day.No drowsyness or > nothing and I mean nothing. We thought he had a secondary sinus infection but were > just guessing and being cautious. > This healthy SoJRA child is now wearing a medical mask just to go outside and > play. > This isn't right and shouldn't be happening. > I am ready for a burst of high dose steroids to pull hin through a change in > meds and an addition of allergy, steroid spray. > It's just plain awful and getting worse instead of better. To many days of no > rain but hopefuly rain by Thursday. > We have tried Claritan and Clarinex in the past and a short stint of Flonase > when he was 2 and before diagnosis with the JRA.This spring seems to be NASTY > here in TN. > Any and all advise is more then welcome. > Hugs > Becki and 6 systemic > > >
Guest guest
Rusty Thanks for that . Becki make sure you use onion's in most of your food's also. loves onions. I use this in most all of my food's. Onions help ward off cold's as well does the resp tract good. As well as chilli and spiced foods. My son and both had Asthma and Allergies. Sinus infections are easy to get with both of the kids. Give lot's of juice and fruits also. Robbin
Guest guest
Becki, Now I know why you needed that laugh.. Poor , Ash is having allergy problems to but nothing like that.. I would consider the flonase again along with the claritan. I use it with the kids and it seems to work okay. The flonase has done wonders for in the past when he's gotten really bad.. It's not right that he has to wear a mask out to play. Have you tried Benadryl at all?? I agree wit hyou on the rain. Hopefully we will be getting some here in NY tonight. It's so dry here we have had a major rash of grass and brush fires lately and most of us are getting sick of having to go and put them out.. Hugs, EMilie OT/SEVERE allergies Hi all, Just curious what experiances any of you have had with any child with severe seasonal allergies. can't even go outside for 3 minuites without coughing so hard he vomits and it's continuous, over and over again. He seen a ped Sunday who prescribed Amoxicillan and a codeine cough syrup with Pseudoephedrine and something else, been taking Claratin. It's not doing squat and instead of just before bed time it's 3 times a day.No drowsyness or nothing and I mean nothing. We thought he had a secondary sinus infection but were just guessing and being cautious. This healthy SoJRA child is now wearing a medical mask just to go outside and play. This isn't right and shouldn't be happening. I am ready for a burst of high dose steroids to pull hin through a change in meds and an addition of allergy, steroid spray. It's just plain awful and getting worse instead of better. To many days of no rain but hopefuly rain by Thursday. We have tried Claritan and Clarinex in the past and a short stint of Flonase when he was 2 and before diagnosis with the JRA.This spring seems to be NASTY here in TN. Any and all advise is more then welcome. Hugs Becki and 6 systemic
Guest guest
Sky was put on Zyrtec and Flonase when she was 4. We had to switch to claritin about 6 mo ago and it didn't work. So we are paying out of pocket for Zyrtec and the difference is phenominal. Also, has been checked for asthma? There are some inhalers that could help with the cough, or he could do nebulizer treatments. I know that another med is not what he needs, but... Because of the meds Sky is on she cannot be allergy tested--wouldnt be accurate, but that might give you an idea of what david needs to avoid. Good luck! Guest guest
Lots of water Becki . . . as much as he can handle, will help drain all the gunk. Also look for an over the counter decongestant that is 100% guiphenasine (sp). That all helps drainage. Abbie has struggled this spring also, with a nasty bronchitis. Hope it gets really hot soon. Guest guest
Hi Gretchen, I can relate to the price of the Zyrtec. Both my kids started Claritan back when it was RX only and I had a $200 drug deductable.30 reditabs cost $109 per kid,now I buy Wal Mart brand for under $7. can't be skin poped either, part meds and part exzema but there is a blood test that is pretty accurate. I've been very worried about asthma and been watching and waiting for wheezing and blue lips and fighting for air.Luckily sees his rheumy Monday who also heads up the pediatric allergy dept. Guest guest
Christy, Thanks,if only I could get to drink water, thats what the nurse recomended also. I know what you are talking about with the decongestant,it's usualy in his RX cough medicine we get. The hot weather has been our problem here in TN.Spring sprung with a vengence and finaly after 7 straight days of 80 it's supposed to rain. Sorry Abbie has been fighting Bronchitis,my oldest has had it a couple times and it's scary to hear them breathe at night. Guest guest
Becki - Hunter has had such bad allergies and cough this season - I just read your first post today. We thought she was developing asthma too. Finally - doctor said he thought it was acute bronchitis. (Brought on by some weird virus going around and the nasty stuff outside) Treatment began and she is doing great. She had wheezing and couldn't run across the floor without coughing. Countless trips to the shower to try to loosen up the nasty stuff in her lungs. Her ped wanted to put her on singular but we are holding off to see if her condition improves with the decrease in pollen(and she is doing better 3 days no coughing or sneezing) also want to see Her Rheumy first. I hope is doing well really soon - when my son (who is now 27) developed asthma at age 6 it was so hard. Instead of playing baseball we had to switch to the swim team and he continued to excel physically. Today he runs 4 miles a day and is a officer in the US Navy. (go figure with being brought up practically in the water.) I have noticed that this spring in Georgia has seemed exceptionally bad for the allergy sufferers in our family and friends. Good luck and we will be praying that this is just a one time occurrence for . Sandi Ken Hunter 6 Systemic
