I live in Denver, and I wonder why you are going to New Orleans to see doctors, when you have some excellent doctors in the Denver area. This would be much closer to you and probably cheaper, and insurance may be more willing to pay more if you stay in state.

Dr. Huang is one of the best plastic surgeons in the world, and she works in Denver out of Presbyterian/St. Lukes and St. Joe's Hospitals in Denver. She could very easily perform a reconstruction for you after your mastectomy, and I'm sure the results would be wonderful, as she is a top notch surgeon.

Please let me know if would like any more info on her or other docs in the Denver area. What type of surgeon are you looking to do your mastectomy? A general surgeon? If so, there are several excellent general surgeons here I can recommend. Whatever you do, please do not get implants. The insurance company should pay for your reconstruction regardless of what you choose. It is not their decision, but yours, and all they really care about is saving money. And of course implants would be cheaper than a tissue flap. Don't let them make the decision for you!!

The abdominal tissue flap procedure is very successful. Tissue is resected from your abdomen and tunnelled up to your breast area to reform a breast.

There is less scarring than the flap used from the shoulder area, and much less pain. And from what I've heard and seen, the long term results are also better with fewer complications.
