Hi a,

Ibuprofin and Naprosyn are in the same family of NSAIDS and doctors have no

idea why you can get OTC childrens Motrin but not OTC Naprosyn. Some children

will respond better to one and not the other but neither is stronger then the

other. It usualy takes 2-3 weeks to get enough in your system to work, mayby a

little longer. The Nap is harder on the stomache and causes thinning of the skin

so more bruising and bleeding is more of a possibility.

I hope you see noticable results soon.

Hi a. Unfortuntely, these medications do take a while to work. Most take

4-6 weeks, some longer. If he is in severe pain, you might want to call your

doctor and see if it's ok to give him a little motrin in the morning to

" jump start " him. That's what we did with Caroline until some of the meds

finally kicked in.

Good luck!

Question about Naproxen

My son has just recently been diagnosed with JRA. He has finally

been switched from just childrens Motrin to Naproxen. On the motrin

he did ok except for mornings. He has only been taking Naproxen

since Saturday. My question is how long should I expect it to take

before seeing any results. The hope was that it would help him be

able to be in less pain in the mornings but so far there is no

change. I know that it might take some time but I thought if I had a

general idea of what to expect I wouldnt call the dr too soon or too

late. Any thoughts are helpful.

Thanks,

a

My oldest daughter works in a dental office. Before the DR will prescribe and

pain killers, he has the patient use both Motrin & Tylenol, that they work

almost a well as prescription pain killers. Talk to your DR and ask.

In our case, the doctor prescribed Naprosyn, Oraped and Zantac. Worked that

night....we were amazed. Everyone is different though. We've only been on it a

month and we have a new child now. We were also doing childrens Motrin when she

seemed to be in a lot of pain but it only barely took the edge off -- nothing

like what we are seeing now.

a - Keep in mind that Oraped (I believe) is a steroid similar to

Prednisone. That drug has amazingly quick results - usually within 24 hours.

It has many drawbacks also, but the miracle of it is that it works very

quickly. If you are going to stay with Naproxen/Naprosyn then be prepared

for it to take a little time. Hang in there. It does get better!
