Guest guest
I got Aundrea's lab results back today and there were several flags which make me wonder wether or not I should be starting the methotrexate this weekend or not. I have a call into her rheumy but so far no response from her and I can't reach her local ped. Anyway the flags were on the following tests Lymphocytes were low 17 Normal range is 30-50 Neutrophils were high 76 Normal range 39-70 Hemoglobin slighly elevated as was her albumin another lymphocyte% test was low 14 range (17-48) Granulocyte high 84.6 range (43-76) band cells slightly elevated I looked up a couple of lab sites to try and interpret these results. basically I learned that lymphocytes increased means viral infections and decrease indicates sign of other diseases. elevated neutrophils means bacterial infection. So what are your suggestions. Do I hold off on the methotrexate unless I hear from her dr. or just go ahead as planned? Thanks (drea 9 systemic)
Guest guest
- I know you have already had response to this, but one thing we learned at AJAO this summer was how labs are read. Do you know if her labs are done on an adult scale or pediatric scale?? You might want to check. Most often, unless they are done at a Children's Hospitals they are being interpreted by adult standards. The only thing that this means is that what could be considered high or low for an adult, might be considered normal for a child. It's up to your rheumy to determine if that level is ok for Aundrea. For future reference I would ask what she considers normal. I hope her MTX went well Alia and Caroline, age 2, poly and uveitis questions about lab results I got Aundrea's lab results back today and there were several flags which make me wonder wether or not I should be starting the methotrexate this weekend or not. Guest guest
Hi Alia, It was so good to hear from you today. I have had little Caroline on my mind and wondered how her sugery went. Thats to bad about those darn knees causing her troubles. Boy she sure is on a lot of drugs for being such a little tyke. I looked at my window sill this morning as I started to get Aundreas morning drugs out for her and couldn't believe all of the vials of drugs that we have. Hardly any room left on the sil. :-( I sure hope that you get some good news at Carolines next appt for her eyes. How is your pregnancy going. You certainly have a lot on your plate these days. Thanks for the info on the labs. I dont know if the range they gave me was for adults or not but I will check into that. I did find a lab site that had the values for children and she was definately quite low on neutrophils and leukocytes as well as a few others, but her rheumy just chalked it up to her autoimmune disease. Drea had her first dose of methotrexate last night. A little fatigue but other than that she claims to be feeling wonderful. I hope it continues. I tapered the pred today so we will see what tomorrow brings. One day at a time, right! I wonder if Caroline is going to give up eating blueberries now? Must of hurt your heart to see her go thru that. Wishing you a good week, (drea 9 systemic) - In , " Pranke, Alia " <Alia.Pranke@t...> wrote: > - I know you have already had response to this, but one thing we > learned at AJAO this summer was how labs are read.
