Guest guest
Misty, Sorry to hear has had to go up to 30mg of the pred. With any luck that will take care of the systemic symptoms before starting the Enbrel.I hope it works great for him.Is already on Methotrexate? The two work great together, better then either one alone. Our prayers are with you Becki and 6 systemic
Guest guest
No, has never taken mtx. He is just on the pred and Naprosyn. He takes Tylenol as a buffer if he gets hurting and it's too early for Naprosyn. The pred he's taking is actually only 5 mg per 5 cc, so it's a total of 10 mg a day. I'm not certain why they don't want to use mtx. Is it harder on kidneys? I do know we have to be careful because was born with only 1. Guest guest
Hi Misty, Glad to hear the pred dose is 5mg per 5cc. always took prelone which was 3mg per 1cc and at times took 10cc. I just assumed was on MTX since he was tapering pred and the rheumy was thinking about Enbrel. I don't think MTX is hard on the kidneys, most of the monitoring is for liver function. For Enbrel though there is no special monitoring, just occasional labs to see what the JRA is up to. I can understand why you have to be so cautious. If you do go with Enbrel I hope it's your wonder drug. Hugs Becki and 6 systemic
Guest guest
Misty, Maybe my little brain has gone blank today (like a turkey with it's head cut off), but have you guys tried methotrexate yet? As I think I recall, you are just on pred and not any DMARD? You've got to do a DMARD (like mtx) before trying Enbrel. I also never understood why the doc. was tapering the pred without being on a DMARD. Pred is merely a bandaid. I hope I am wrong and just got my memory of your posts messed up. Keep letting us know how it's going. Stacia and Hunter 8 systemic, iritis
Guest guest
, No, has never been on mtx or another DMARD. I am not sure what the reasoning is behind this. I do plan on asking at our next appt in a couple of weeks. He was doing ok for a few months and they might have thought we had things under control. He had been having some morning stiffness, but no fevers and no rash from June through October.
