Guest guest
Georgina - You are doing a fantastic job. I really don't know where I would be without this site. It truly had been a lifesaver. I would much rather have you moderate than deal with all that spam crap! Alia Re: Strange JRA Support group request by ???? Hi Everyone, Okay. I, too, received an identical email message. Maybe all of our list members addresses were targeted or perhaps only those who have posted in recent days? I'm not really sure. I really disliked changing the format of our list, becoming a so-called 'moderated' group. It was something I really struggled with. I have very strong feelings about censorship and the individual's right to Freedom of Speech. This group functioned very well for more than four years without the need to resort to moderated status. As time went on, especially in the past year, the numbers of spam and infected email messages increased dramatically. The sole reason that I switched this group to a moderated status was to try to filter out inappropriate, harmful, and completely off-topic postings. I'm not a controlling-type person. I don't have anything to gain by denying someone's message from appearing in our forum. In fact, I've never once intentionally denied a post that was not harmful or, at least in my opinion, completely inappropriate for our list members. The fact is, I've seen too many valuable email groups make the switch to pay services so they could more easily avoid the type of disruptions that are sometimes faced in unmoderated mailing lists. I wanted the JRA List to remain a free service, so I took it upon myself to filter the posts. Not moderate them. There are occasional delays and I really do appreciate everyone's patience. I live in a far-off time zone (six hours difference from New York, for example) and I'm not able to be online as often as I'd like to. When I do have a chance to get online, my main objective is to check in here at the list: approve new members, filter out the spam, catch up with everyone's news, read about how all the members and their families are doing, and find out if there's any arthritis-related news that might be of interest to us. I don't hardly get a chance to write much these days, with so much going on lately (parenting two teens, Josh being sick, being busy at work, just had to get a new car, finally caught the feral kitten that was keeping me up every night crying, etc. etc. !!) but whenever I can ~ I do. Didn't mean to offend anyone, by not approving new members' posts fast enough. And I'm not at all offended by someone beginning a new group for those who have or know someone who has arthritis. We're all in this together, right? Guest guest
Georgina - you have done a great job here on the list. I am glad you took the step to filter out the problem emails we were getting and I agree that the list should stay free. Since I joined 4 years ago, I have learned so much and " met " so many great people. Perhaps the poster was refering to other jra lists at ? Here our posts come through right away usually. I like the list as is, thanks for all you do. Michele (17, diagnosed 4 years ago the 17th which I can't believe, pauci & spondy) Re: Strange JRA Support group request by ???? Hi Everyone, Okay.
