Guest guest
Is that the young man who is on Ally McBeal? I think he is in his teens. What did he say to reflect that dwarfism is not a disease? Or did Kathie Lee say that? Kathie Lee seems ditsy anyway. She tries to be overly politically correct. Guest guest
I don't want to turn this into a Kathie Lee bashing party, but you talk about ditz....I watched the show once when was on (one of my favourites). Kathie was acting all knowing and chummy and asking how his siblings were. All of them are in the music biz so others may have heard of them. Anyway...There she was asking " How's your sister Kate?...How's your brother Livingston? " Every answer was " oh they are doing well " . Then she asked " how's your brother ? answered that " he's not doing so well, he died 2 years ago. " She just clammed up, but I am sure her research assistant just got reamed later that day! It has been one of my favourite moments of the show. Obviously I do not watch it anymore. Sue --- <lswans@...> wrote: > Is that the young man who is on Ally McBeal? Mostly it has been " old timers " who grew up in the environment and felt uncomfortahle being thrust into the hearing community, I agree to some degree. In my class (class of 75ish), our " group " of deaf grew up when sign language was illegal in classroom. Needless to say, we were " forced " to learn to speak. Many of our generation deaf who never went to deaf school are still very involved in hearing community. In fact, in my class of 6 kids (deaf program in public school), 2 are already implanted, two is pending (that what i was told). That is a percentage, based on number of kids in one class. But then on another hand, those who went to deaf school where signing was legal, it make sense to " belong " with the deaf community. Back in the mid 70's...... we were mocked at soooooo badly for being " oral deaf " , that is part to blame for never being able to " blend " into deaf community. There was even a nasty sign for us. Sign Language became legal in classroom in about 1972, I graduated in 75, see our problem?? Yet, the bond of our classmates are still very strong. I agree that Josh may have found his " calling " , being 18, it is a rebellous age for many young adults. I know because I have two stuborn daughters, one will turn 19 in Jan, another will turn 20, also in Jan. One is a habital check bouncer, another is....... err ,,,,, hmmmm,,,, still think she " don't " have to get a job, yet she wants to move out. I know sooner or later, they will snap out of it. For the mom/dad, be blessed that Josh has a mind of his own. It is a good sign, he thinking for himself. My older still " depend " on me for " her " thinking......... uggggggghhhhhhhhhhhh. Guest guest
Georgina, It was sad for me to read about Josh. I feel close to him, as he is the same age as n and with the same disease. Hopefully this is a bump in the road that will disappear quickly. 10 mgs isn't all that much with his increased size now, so you may find little side effects. I have found at 10 that n's side effects disappeared. I know that with n the only way out of the systemic symptoms is thru prednisone. We always hate to do it, but it is the only thing that stops it. You will be in our prayers. (n, 15, systemic)

Guest guest
Hi , I wonder about the doctor you're seeing... Not all achalasians look sick and thin (I know that I don't look sick, even though I am skinny, but I know others who definitely are not skinny). Furthermore a wrap can be too tight, no doubt about it!!! His judgement on that one really makes me wonder!!! And for not wanting to give references... Please reconsider... I'm sorry you have to go through all this and that you are even having a hard time to provide in going to see dr. Rice. Guest guest
Hi - As you know when we talked by phone, 1st surgery was done too tight,MORE PROOF FOR THAT DR,HAVE HIM CALL ME! I would run as fast as you can-this tells me he doesnt have much experience if he doesnt know about how they can be done too tight. I really think going to DrRice will be well worth it! I really think thats your best bet! I know its costly but do what you got to do to get him to a qualified surgeon or you will be wasting more money and time having to deal with a failed myotomy. There may even be another specialit closer to you in New York-maybe do a post and see if there is. I am sorry for your friends loss of her brother.Gosh there has just been so much tragedy lately. Well let me know what you find out with Rice.Tell Josh were keeping him in our prayers.Give me a call again anytime ok. Tonia > > HELLO EVERYONE WE HAD A VISIT WITH DR. Guest guest
My son Josh has cerebral palsy and he's 14 years old. He's very small - maybe 60lbs - and has scoliosis. He uses a power wheelchair for mobility and doesn't walk independently at all. He's a typical kid Since my son, , just had the surgery, I thought I would try to offer a little help to you in your decision. My son is 20 but he's a very tiny guy, only 53 lbs and approximately 4 ft. 4. He doesn't have CP but he is in a wheel chair as he suffered a brain damage incident when he was 1 1/2 years old and his condition left him like having CP and he can't walk or talk, etc.. So there are some similarities but not entirely. How much curvature does your son have? The pediatric surgeon commented to me after the surgery that my son presented a " challenge " during the surgery since he was " older " . I took that to mean that he was older to a pediatric surgeon. In other words, perhaps the younger, the better for this type of surgery as the bones are probably more pliable. My son had a 94 degree curvature and I'm telling you, you can not tell now that he ever had that. His surgery took over 12 hours but it's miraculous and was so worth it. I don't know where you live but I would HIGHLY recommend the pediatric surgeon at Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago, Dr. Sarwark. He's a real gentleman and very considerate. (I hope it's okay to mention specific doctors. This is not an advertisement.) We will be going afterwards to the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago and I'm hopeful we'll get a new wheel chair, etc. as well as more physical therapy. Just wanted and I wish you and Josh good luck with whatever you decide to do. Michele and **************It's only a deal if it's where you want to go. Find your travel deal here. Guest guest
Hi Josh, I'm glad you found this group, but I'm sorry you had to find it. You seem to suffer like the rest of us. I just can't understand why the medical profession can not get it right when it comes to our backs; which in turn affects our legs/feet. For me, If I'm having a good lower back day, my upper back is in spasm (my scs is lower back/legs/feet), and if it's not that it's my knees, and not that something else. The sacral joint dysfunction is a killer, I have that also. I just get so weary sometimes. I dread getting out of bed because I realize then where my " daily " problem is located. I seem to flip-flop between good days and bad....including my emotional days. Some days I'm just so tired of feeling like this, and others I handle it better. I like having this group because you can vent and people understand. To give you an idea of how depressing this can be to me. I just reconnected via Facebook with about 30 of the 97 members of my HS graduating class (class of '73). Which is pretty remarkable considering I went to HS in Germany. I live between Dallas and Fort Worth and the reunion this year is in San (about 5 - 5 1/2 hrs away). They are all begging me to come. I am the only one who is disabled. Everyone else is still in good health and I know this because we've emailed/chatted/talked on the phone extensively since reconnecting. I'm 53 and have to use a cane. And I know I shouldn't be embarrassed but after seeing pictures of my old friends I could never walk in to a room like I am. I can only stand or sit for about 15 minutes at a time. I can not drive the 5 hrs, someone would have to drive me and I don't have anyone to do that. One of them even offerred to get me a plane ticket. But of course I wouldn't accept that. I'm already worried because a few live within 4 hours of me (after 34 years we didn't even know it!!!!) and they said they plan to come visit.; I just hate for anyone to see me like this. But none of them understand, they are all saying I'll be fine once I get there, I'll have a drink or two and it'll be great!!!! I can't drink because of my meds. I'll get off my soapbox. We all live with our demons. At least here, everyone understands. And I am so, so thankful for this group. I hope you are able to get things straightened out. I don't know why your scs isn't working. Hopefully they can get it fixed; there has to be a problem, but I'm sure it can be fixed. Take Care, B. in TEXAS ________________________________ From: jmeeze12 <jmorrell12@...> Stimulator Sent: Tuesday, April 7, 2009 12:46:49 PM Subject: Introduction, my stimulator & meds First things first. I'm Josh, 34, from Indianapolis. I've been a passive member of this group since mid-december (if memory serves me correct). I have been truly inspired by the stories of pain, sorrow, survival, compassion and commitment that I have read in hundreds of posts since I joined. A little about me. I'm dealing with Aggressive Lumbar DDD, Sciatica, sacral joint dysfunction & of course arthritis. Over the last 3.5 years, I've had every kind of poke, prod, test, injection, wrap/brace, tens, PT, massage, chiropractor, balm/gel/paste/ cream, etc... (just like most of you). I've been told by 4 different docs that surgery was not a good option as the success rate w/ what I had going would be around 10-17%. So in August last year it was determined that we'd try the SCS. It took until December 12th before I actually had the procedure. (I'll save the story of my trial procedure for another time...funny story though). Since having the SCS put in, I have only be able to make it to work 5 days. Luckily, I can do some work from home...but that's not going to cut it. I've had a couple of appts. w/ my stimulator Rep., but we can never get the intensity right were my lower back is getting the right amount vs. my legs w/o really feeling it in my ribs, stomach, bladder, or worse. My lifestyle & personality has completely changed over the last few years. My " condition " led to my divorce. I'm also tired all the time. I've always had trouble sleeping at night and the back/leg pain hasn't made it any easier. I think it's due to the meds, so I'm working w/ my doc to wheen off my main narco med - Kadian. I've been on 80mg 2x daily. So, we went down to 60mg x2 for 2 weeks, and next week we'll drop to 30mg x2. I already feel like I have a little more energy, but wierdly I have less back pain and I can feel my stim in my lower back better. Well, I just wanted to come out of " the shadows " . -Josh
Guest guest
Hi Josh! I'm new in the stimulator game. Just had my trial removed today and am waiting for the date for the permanent one. I'm not working at this time but hope that it will change soon. I have worked very little after the initial incident which triggered this. (Luckily, hubby has good insurance and a pretty good job. Also, I haven't been able to shop, gamble or drink so it saves alot of money. Just wish I knew where I could get free smokes!!) Wouldn't it be so much easier if you knew what made it worse at times than others. You can do one thing today and maybe it won't be so bad then do the same thing a week later and suffer for 4 days. You really don't know what to avoid. Well - take care and keep your chin up. ..............sheryl
