Guest guest
Hi Patty, You didn't describe the rash so it's hard to guess. has gotten a rash twice that looked just like the Stills rash. They were red, raised welty and hivey covering most of his body. The first time his ped almost cried because it looked just like it but he had a viral infection a few days prior and while somewhat rare some viruses can produce a red, welty rash. The second time looked like a severe case of Stills rash that had my hubby and me freaking out but just couldn't believe it was Arthur because he was doing so great for so long. That happened the morning after Enbrel and after his second shot of the week he developed hives all around his injection site.Thats when Cincy became involved and Amgen, the makers of Enbrel.A very scarey week.We had to stop Enbrel, dope up with adult doses off Benadryl for a month and ship what vials we had to California to have them analyzed. The deoderant would probably just cause a rash in her arm pits and the antibiotic would be wide spread but wouldn't know what it should look like.If it's Stills Caitlin should not be feeling so good. She should be complaining of something or wakeing up stiff. Calm down, dont freak, see the ped and call the rheumy and let us know what they say.Remember lots of things can produce a rash and if it is the Cefzil then it's no biggie. You just stop it for a short amount of time and if it goes away start a differant antibiotic and if it doesn't go away you can start it back up.I'd be more worried if it was red, fine and felt like sandpaper,I won't say it because you know exactly what I am talking about. Guest guest
Patty: You didn't describe the rash, but hoping that it is not Still's...does she have any fever, aches, pains, etc??? As you said it could be the meds or something else...don't have any experience with Still's, but I'll be here rooting and praying that it isn't that....call the doc and see what their take on it is...and do keep us posted...I'll keep her in my prayers today and Rob 15 Spondy On Thu, 9 Sep 2004 08:38:13 EDT Emeraldsx3@... writes: Hi Everyone: Well, Caitlin has a rash! A couple of things I am calming myself with. She took a second dose of a medicine for a yeast infection or she may be having a reaction to deodorant. With the medicine for the infection, it's one of those one pill things and I believe (doctor's office isn't open yet) it's the type that works over several days, which is why you only take one pill. She broke out in the rash three days later. So possibly that could be it. God I hope and pray that's it. Of course, I am wondering now about the Cefzil (prophylactic). She took two treatments to get the yeast infection under control and we all know what antibiotics can cause those so now I am wondering if it could be the Cefzil. Maybe she just can't tolerate it anymore. Yeast could be the first sign and now the rash. Ughhh I don't know! She had a reaction to deodorant once and now with school, she is wearing it everyday. It could be that. The most dreaded reason would be the nasty, damn Still's Disease! She has done so great I just am hoping and praying it isn't the Dragon coming back! Anyone have any experience with allergic reactions vs. the Still's rash or just allergic reactions? Thanks all. Going out to breakfast with a dear friend. She will keep me positive for now:) Take care. Patty
Guest guest
Hi Becki: Caitlin's rash is not like onset, although it took a few days for her first rash to get severe. No raised welts or anything, just a smooth, spotted rash over most of her body (arms, legs, torso, back and a bit on her face). When she had the reaction to the deodorant it was worse under her arms than anywhere else so it's probably not that. I am thinking and hoping it's the medication from the infection. Waiting until she gets home to check it out from this morning to see if it has gotten better, stayed the same or gotten worse then I will call the doctor accordingly. She has complained of being a little more tired than usual. I figured it was from school, but she insists she felt this way before school started. Of course, during the summer, they all stayed up pretty late. Thanks Becki. Take care. Patty
Guest guest
Hi : No fever, aches or pains. Though she says she is more tired than usual. I am starting to think about her thyroid. Alyssa has Hashimoto Disease, has recently tested positive for thyroid antibodies and Caitlin has never been tested. Her pediatrician wrote a script at her checkup for a thyroid test, but were trying to put it off until next week (sisters' endo check ups) and doing all three of them at once. I think I will just take her up to Quest and get it done tonight (if they are open late) and rule out/in a thyroid issue. That would be one explanation of being tired. Come to think of it she is gaining weight like Alyssa did when her thyroid shut down. She also is complaining of being cold in the house. Interesting how sometimes you get an " ah ha' moment! I just got one typing this out. See you always do good things for me LOL:) Hope we have some Emla cream left! Thank you for keeping her in your prayers today:) Take care. Guest guest
Hi Helen: No news yet. Waiting until Caitlin gets home from school to check it again (3:20ish). I hate to make her panic, etc. If it's an allergic reaction from the one time pill, it should lessen. Hoping and praying when she gets home it will be gone! Thanks for the prayers and positive thoughts:) Take care. Patty
Guest guest
Hi Patty, By any chance does it look like a lace table cloth?Fifth disease causes a rash and the child feels fine but can run a low grade fever. Most kids look like they have been slaped on the face but not all. Good luck at finding out what is causing it. Hugs Becki and 6ystemic
Guest guest
Hi Becki: No, not a lace tablecloth. It really is a strange one. Rash has lightened a bit, but she has splotches here and there on her face. Sort of like when you have a reaction to something and your face gets blotchy. Well, my husband's does when he takes aspirin. Will take her in tomorrow if it doesn't improve tonight. There isn't much they can do for a rash that I don't have at home. Rashes are so hard to distinguish too. Thanks again. Take care. Patty
Guest guest
Patty, When Hunter was 5 or so, he was still not diagnosed with JRA.....Anyway, he had sinus infection of something and was prescribed Cefzil. We gave him one dose in the evening and in the morning he was covered in rash. At the time, we always thought his rashes were hives. So we thought he was now allergic to Cefzil. Now that he's been diagnosed, thinking back, we have no idea if it was an allergic reaction or the systemic JRA. He frequently got " hives " and I was always searching for an answer as to why. I know now... I hope Caitlin is having an allergic reaction!!! Stacia and Hunter 8 systemic, iritis
Guest guest
Hi Patty, Have you taken Caitlin to the ped yet?Is her rash better? You mentioning that her rash on her face was better but more predominant on her chest still reminded me of Fifths disease also known as Parvo virus. The rash can be highly variable ,some kids have minor rash symptoms and others like my Shelby were classic textbook and miserable with severe rash, an exrtreme case.Does it itch?Shelby itched horribly as it moved from one area to another but many children don't.Most likely it's just a strange viral thing and all the ped can do is say it's not this or that.Only time will tell if it was the antibiotic.I remember when was in pre-k and we were at a field trip at the Nashville zoo and we noticed he was covered in a nasty looking rash. All the ped could think of was that he had a virus of some sort but the rash was nothing classified from any certain infection. I pray it continues to subside and is just a viral thing or an allergic reaction to the antibiotic. We have had s labs scheduled labs done with his strange rash and most of the time it showed nothing and other times things were out of whack and nobody could figure it out.I am sure Caitlin will be fine but it's natural to worry just the same.
